I have called two different 800 numbers with DirecTV and am not allowed to talk to live person. The automatec voice says: Because there is such a long wait to speak with an associate, we will let you answer your question by automation. Then no matter what choice I make, I cannot get an answer or help that I need. All I want to do is drop the 90 day special I was offered when I signed up on May 5. I am sooo afraid that DirecTV will continue the special offer at an increase of FIFTY DOLLARS a month, and we cannot afford that! I remember when we signed up they said to call to have it cancelled. Well, I can't get through.
My next question is should I stop payment on the VISA card. If VISA won't let me, then I will drop the card. I am very worried because I remember the guy said to CALL them to cancel. Any help or advice would be appreciated.

Although I have never had any trouble getting through to a live CSR, it is highly possible that they may be having a PBX outage or something. Try calling a tech line and "play stupid" about the number you dialed and ask to be transferred to a live billing CSR.

Try any of theses (some are regular numbers) other users will post more.

1-800-directv
1-800-494-4388
1-800-531-5000 (tech line I think)

This was posted by Plywoodstatebum back in June,

Heres a little trick I learned about calling Directv customer service and getting your call answered really FAST! Guaranteed to work. There service is all automated now and is helpful but no help when you need to talk to somebody.
Heres what I do
1.First enter your telephone number
2. Push the button to make a credit card payment"but don't enter any numbers"
3. Push the # key instead
BAM!!

just a repost from DBSTalk.com It sure helped me...

Cool, the old fake payment or wrong credit card trick. Good info. Sometimes you can try the "0" or "*" or "#" alone on some PBX systems to get to the operator.

Very helpful all. Thanks.
I did try the "0" and they said "hold on please". I held on to the music for 45 minutes. I then got on dial up and posted this. I ALWAYS have great sucess online.

I haven't had a problem like that with DirecTV in years. Here's a suggestion. Try calling at odd hours. If you get up at 5am call them then or if you stay up to watch Letterman or Leno or whatever call before you go to bed. I get out of work at midnight and I call a lot of companies during the night. It's surprising how helpful they can be at 3am.

When I signed up in late march I got the ninety day total choice premier offer, if you can believe it THEY CALLED ME TWICE!! to try and get me to commit to a package. I told them I would call them and let them know. As it turned out, I never did, I signed up on http://www.directv.com and changed my package online easily. And its done almost instantly when you do it online, just make sure you have your account number handy and an email address.

try calling from a differant # other then your home,if there computer doesn't
reconize it as a customer # you get though everytime

Can't you just change your programming online? Or fire off a few emails to make sure you have your bases covered?
