I hear Dish has many "Pirate TV" channels on various satellites. People who try to scam the net either get the Pirate TV or the channel saying how to swap out your access card. Is it possible to view these channels on a legitimate system? I am just curious what they say on the Pirate TV channel.

Bell Expressvu used to have them say some like "call 1-800-###-#### to add HBO"
Easy way to snag the pirates. They call they number, give their account info, and the reciever gets ECM'd

I heard that at one time Comcast used to run "Free Comcast T-Shirts" ads in between PPV movies on their analog systems. To Legit customers, these channels would be scrambled in between movies, therefore only people with illegal descramblers would actually see them and call for the T-Shirts.

I remember reading about this one time when Comcast accidential descrambled the channel and many legit customers saw and called and where later treated like pirates. This of course caused a nice legal mess for Comcast and its customers.

It is basically a loop that says "if you are seeing this, you're not paying for your programming" and offers a basic amnisty for those who want to become legit customers. (Not everyone who is a pirate may know it.)

A link to the video clip was posted at DBSTalk a week or so ago.

That would be a great idea, to offer something for free on particular channels or new channels altogether to catch the hackers.

I don't believe this current effort is intended to catch pirates as much as it is to bring lost sheep back into the fold. A chance for people to continue to watch Echostar programming after the card swaps and moves to Nagra2 are complete instead of continuing to attempt to steal service or moving on to D*. Customers are customers regardless of their past.

IF THEY ARE STEALING THEY ARE NOT A "CUSTOMER" MORE LIKE A THEIF

Very well put ThunderJet

And DirecTv is secure too…so once N2 takes effect, the hackers will be crying because they have nothing to watch. They’re whining right now because they don’t have any porn to watch

Don't listen to those liars! There are two pirate channels out there. One is channel 100, obviously done by pirates who are just trying to take your money.

The other is the Disney Channels as I have repeatedly seen pirates when channel surfing.

Well, theirs always FTA that they can "hack" for free satellite TV. :)

Regarding free porn, there is always TV 6 (both FTA and Net). Yeah it may be in Austrian (G'day mate...right?) but porn is porn.

This channel is designed to educate those people would have a hacked system, but don't know it.

People that fall into this category would be family/friends of a person that has set their system up for "free". Maybe a landlord that provides programming to their tenants using a illegal system.

Sure, they SHOULD know they have a illegal system, but I think Charlie is actually making a smart move here. With the disappearance of nagra1 channels, hackers (and their friends/family etc) might be willing to get a legit sub, if they knew they weren't going to get busted. So he sets up this channel, says call the normal number, and you'll be treated as a normal customer.

Compare this to DTVs forceful legal methods (which COST money), and I think it is a good idea.

If they are turned from the dark side they BECOME a customer! Sheesh, doesn't anybody read anymore.

Would you prefer to have E* waste thousands of dollars pursuing thieves in court and raise our rates to pay for the tracking and prosecution efforts? Yes, they are stealing E* service - but instead of whining about it E* is implementing more security and offering people the chance to become legit.

That would be Austria correct? I'm all for FTA porn, but as far as I know, there's none available in the US, right?
