I like the new weather channel format it just seems like it messed up the local on the 8s popup now. Will that be fixed and will it be possible to make local conditions scroll on the bottom like cable does?

It took them years to get the local on 8's working like it has the past couple years. The channel changing formats so quickly will not make it easy on Directv programmers to do changes like that. The odds of a scroll like cable is slim. Cable uses a local system at their headend, so it is local to that community. Satellite has obvious challenges in that.

There is still a Weather Channel out there. From what I have seen, it is nothing more than movies about weather, and a reality channel. As for Weather on the 8's, what is your long term fascination with it. I know some people are fascinated about various things, but the whole Weather on the 8's thing never thrilled me any. If anything, it caused the majority to go to something else, instead of seeing what is happening weather wise every ten minutes.

Blame it on the new ownership, who see technology as a reason of changing the direction that the Weather Channel has now gone. It is no longer your grandmother's or grandfather's weather channel. Really has not for the past four years.

With real time weather information so readily available from just about any internet-connected device or inexpensive weather radio, there just isn't that much need or demand for old fashioned weather scrolls/updates. Of course the best way to check you local weather is to get a $2 thermometer and look out the window. ;)

One of our Sub Channels use to have a Live Doppler on it of our area, that was very valuable. ... However it got removed because someone said they needed to show more Educational programming. Shortly there after, it became a Music Video channel

Nothing Educational about it.

Our local that had a Weather feed on its sub channel, now has it as 24/7 Cozi-TV.

ours went to me-tv and antenna tv (I think). NBC dumped weather plus when they bought the weather channel. I guess they don't like live weather coverage and are more interested in showing shows about panning for diamonds or making artificial reefs or hauling coal or whatever they show now.

there are a lot of people who can't get internet or digital cable. There are some who can't get cable at all. Especially when you get out in the country and there are only a few houses around. Either the cable company doesn't see it feasible to offer internet or digital cable or they don't see it feasible to offer service at all. That far out you might as well forget dsl too as that is too expensive.

btw, my local on the 8s is the national forecast. I miss the local on the 8s based on directv active but I guess that is gone for good now.

My Local on the 8 does the National as well, it bounces around the country giving you a large area at a time ......
Hardly Local.

I miss how when it went to local on the 8s it loaded your local forecast from directv active.

Sometimes it does local for me, sometimes national.

If they do not have CATV or Satellite, they will catch the weather on their tv connected through an antenna, when the local news deems that it is most urgent to let people know there is severe weather in the area.

Not everyone is dependent on the Weather Channel for their weather. Most look at the newspaper to see what the day or week will be like, others just stick their heads out their door to see how it feels.

Newspaper ?

Haven't actually read a newspaper, actual paper, in years.

More likely, people will pull up the weather online.

Again, as already mentioned, not everyone out there uses the Internet or even have the Internet, nor do a lot even want to even use it. You still have a lot of people that still buy a newspaper from their local grocery store, gas station, and look at it for what was yesterday's news, and the forecast for the day or the next week.

Also, not everyone pulls the weather up online as you believe the numbers to be. Only time most will pull the weather up online, is if they are planning to do something within the next day or even that day, to see if there is anything coming into their area, or the area they plan on traveling to.

I have the Weather Watcher & Weather Bug extensions for Chrome, so that I can see what the current temps are at that time, or to warn me if severe weather is coming in. If I am curious as to what the current weather front is doing, if we are getting severe weather, then I am going to go to noaa.gov to look at the radar, but I am not going to spend every waking hour, to play weatherman as some do.
