I own my Hopper. The original model. Does anyone know how to make the fan run all the time?

There is not an option in the menu to make the fan run all the time. It is on a temperature sensor and should turn on when it is needed to cool down the receiver.

Because there is little need for it. If your Hopper is running hot, simply add a laptop cooler underneath it....

There is not the option for it, because to many people complained. I beleive someone pointed out that it was the 721pvr that did that, and people did not like it.
Go with the laptop fan. Inexpensive and will do what you want it to.

I am aware there is not a menu item for it. I hope someone knows the hardware mod on the motherboard. Again I own the unit so there is no issue with modifying it. I am replacing the Dish fan with a different fan. In my opinion the Dish fan is almost useless. I have an Antec Laptop Cooler under it and while it helps I am looking for more airflow.

Thanks for the USB suggestion. I had already thought of that. Issue. USB = 5 Volts - not very powerful. Standard fan connector = 12 Volts - much more powerful cooling. I guess I could use the power off the SATA hard drive with several adapters. Just will look like a kludge.

The important thing is to make sure it is well ventilated. That's why i like AV stands with no doors. It gets hot in there. I have no issues with my Hopper getting hot. I just touched it and it's just a little warm. Normal.

I have two of those 50mm USB fans plugged into and cooling a 1st gen Apple TV (the version that can double as a hotplate) which is inside a very small AV cabinet.

The two dinky fans have kept it cool.
