Is anyone still using packet radio?

What kind of setup do you have?

What kind of software are you using?

How active is it in your area?

Do you run a packet radio bbs?

I played around with wildcat bbs on dstar low speed data.

I used to run a BBS for the San Francisco Radio Club, W6PW-3, for many years, but when we hit Y2K and the software gave me a date of January 1, 19100, and the number of users had dropped from a high of 75 down to 3, I decided to turn it off rather than invest in new software.

I kind of miss packet, but after sticking around for a while after I turned off the BBS, the activity was so minimal, it wasn't worth it any more. The TNCs and radios are sitting on a shelf in the basement.

What surprises me, though, is that the book I wrote on packet, "Introduction to Packet Radio" - http://www.choisser.com/packet/ - is still getting lots of people reading it, even though I haven't updated it since about 1998.

We have tons of digipeaters packet radio around the state of New Mexico.

Very much alive and well, but the funny things, is I have yet to see any 9.6KBs other than 1.2 KBs digipeaters around in the Albuquerque's metro areas. :) :hungry
