Here is a question for all. I have a 722k with a sling adapter installed on the rear USB and a WiFi broadband stick on the front USB. I would like to add an external hard drive to the receiver, but the two USB ports are in use. Can I use a USB hub with the sling adapter, external hard drive and WiFi stick? I could just try it, but I wanted to see if anyone else has already tried doing that or maybe someone is currently setup this way.

A powered hub should work. I think there's been posts where people are using one successfully.

That said I was never able to get my Belkin hub to work.

I should clarify alittle bit on mine. I think you'll be fine using a powered hub. Technically dish does not support it. Does notean it won't work, and the only fail stories I have heard were from non powered hubs. And I have even seen some of those work just fine. You should be fine in reality.

I have a couple of powered USB hubs. Worked on my ViP722s, and work on my HWSes.

Thanks for the info! Any particular USB hubs that I should look for or avoid?

I'd avoid Belkin. I couldn't get mine to work with just 2 devices - and EHD and a Sling Adapter. Tried to avoid using the front port for a clean look, don't really care for wires hanging off the front. Was also going to run a USB fan off it to try and help keep the receiver cool. Finally gave up and am running the SA from the back port, the EHD from the front, and the USB fan from a cellphone charging cord plugged into a separate outlet.

I've run Belkin powered hubs off 722/Hopper/HWS no issues. On the Hopper I had 3 EHDs and Sling Adapter.

How was the Belkin powered, from the USB port or a separate power supply?

Separate power supply.

Could've been the 722 that caused the issue I guess. It was flaky with the EHD without the hub. I've since had it replaced so maybe I should dig out the hub and give it another try.

Maybe you missed it in my post above because now when you post a link to Amazon it displays to look like an ad, but I recommended the D-Link 4-port powered USB hub. I tried to use a powered GE USB hub before but it didn't work (the Sling Adapter disconnected when another device was plugged in) so maybe not all brands are compatible (as I see someone else mentioned they had a problem with Belkin). I got the D-Link because someone posted here that's the one they were using for a 722k years ago so I purchased the model they linked to and sure enough it worked great.

Now I no longer use the WI-fi stick because I eventually ran a Ethernet cable to the receiver and have it directly plugged in for connectivity, but the hub still allows me to use both the Sling Adapter and my 2TB Seagate EHD on the rear USB port so I can keep the front door on the 722k closed (for aesthetic reasons).
