Gotham

After watching the first half of Smallville before giving up on it, and later the first couple episodes of Arrow, I'm glad this is on Fox (or anywhere else for that matter) than on CW. That way we'll be spared the endless teen angst and promotional music every episode.

Hopefully Fox does this one right.

That's what DVR's are for. Fast forward through the commercials.

Except that CW plays the crappy music during the episodes. They heavily cross market a song towards the end of everything they show.
To be honest I don't even pay attention to the music in the background.

Ugh! Not another comic book based TV show!
That was my initial reaction when I heard about "Gotham". Not only was it a comic based TV show, it was another prequel. It was a prequel of my least favorite DC comic series, Batman. How good could this show be?
But like the addict I am to this type of entertainment I watched the pilot waiting to be disappointed. ...waiting to become more depressed in the most depressing backdrop of any of the major comic series. ...waiting for the moment I was sure to come when I had enough and either ended it all, or changed the channel!
It's going to be a long wait.
Gotham's pilot was surprisingly good! It had the look and feel of a gritty late 1970s cop show. The scenery was still dark. The mood seemed oppressive; exactly what turns me off about Batman. But there was always just enough light shining through to make it tolerable...enough light to give hope that things could be better and you were going to be a witness to the unfolding of a new era.
At times Gotham's pilot was a little too cute in the introduction of some ancillary characters. I'm sure there were some that shrieked like school girls shaking their forearms with their fists facing outwards at their chest when "Ivy" came to the door, or when the forensics guy "Ed" made an appearance. I smirked at the excess and obvious fan pandering. Still, the entire story of the pilot was entertaining and stuck to my definition of what a hero in a comic book should be. Unwavering, resolute in his conviction to do good, always!
The series begins exactly at the point where the Batman story begins: the brutal murder of young Bruce Wayne's parents as he watches helplessly. James Gordon, the rookie detective who is paired up with a grizzled, jaded, older detective catch the case. As the story unfolds you see what our hero, Gordon, is up against.
This has to be the best comic based series pilot I've seen. Against all odds, I set a recurring timer on my DVR and hope the rest of the rest of the season doesn't disappoint!

I agree, Tony. Very entertaining. I give it an A-/B+. The wifey gives it a D, since Batman is not her cup of tea.

Out of the 3 premiers that we watched last night, Forever was the best, followed by Gotham, and Scorpion coming in last.

Ditto my opinion for this show! Although I had set a reoccurring timer I had expected to delete it.. Surprise it was great show for the 8PM time frame. I always look forward to any show with Donald Logue in it. A seedy cop, yep just up his alley! As for the kid, had to chuckle. The kid who didn't say a word in the Fox series Touch sure can be bossy to the help. :biggrin

I was extremely cynical about it, but was pleasantly surprised. Looks like a solid hit.

Finally got around to watching the first episode last night. I really liked it! This one has potential.

Was great to see Carol Kane again. She was definitely channeling " Simka"...Cappelpoot! :)
