OSX Yosemite experiences

I'm surprised your IT knew how to fix it... Most IT depts won't touch a Mac. I would though since I own one.

Someone did make an app to enable the TRIM feature when adding a 3rd party SSD to a Mac so I'm sure it's possible to do the same for Handoff.

What are people experiencing with battery life running Yosemite? My 2011 Air seems to be getting its butt kicked, ever since the upgrade. Ran for 30 minutes, dropped 22%. Not at all what I am used to.

No, the indexing was last week. And when it indexed, it was on power. I notice when I run it on battery, the drain is much quicker than it was before. I was at 100% just now, and am testing it, letting it run on battery tonight.

Posting about battery life seemed to be a good thing. I have been off-power since 7:31, now 90 minutes, and at 67%. That is better than it has been, and is close to my norm, of about 2 hours for 50% of battery.

I'm in the same boat as you, Mike. My 2011 MacBook Air looks okay running Yosemite, but it can't take advantage of the best of the nifty Continuity features. Nor can I AirDrop between my iPhone and my MBA.

So now I need a new MacBook as well as a replacement for my seven year-old MacPro. Cha-Ching!

I do like that new 5K Retina iMac, though...

Roland, Read the post above yours. A 2011 Air can work, with a minor tweak. I am probably going to give it a try.

I am loving SMS-relay. The battery has gotten better, I am getting used to the GUI interface, and so far, Yosemite has been a big win for me.

I now have Handoff! The process was pretty easy, but I had to reboot a few times for it to somehow allow a permission to edit Kexts. And then it took about 2-3 minutes plus a reboot.

That said, I don't think the iCloud accounts have caught on yet. The directions say to log-out and log-back in, but in both instances, that threatens to delete stuff from iCloud Drive on the mac/iPhone, and then it would have to come back. But posts in the thread said if you don't log in, it just takes longer for the hand-shake.

Mike, does this allow you to AirDrop between an iOS device as well? The iCloud storage wouldn't bother me since I don't use it intentionally.

Also, I am curious why Apple identifies my MBA as MacBookAir170 (2) instead of its proper name. If Apple thinks I have two MBAs, it would be nice to know where the second one is!
