No Phone Jack near Directv receiver, what can I do?

I'm currently installing directv, and will have to run a long telephone wire to my receiver...is there an easy way to get a phone jack installed near my receiver? some magic new technology that I'm not aware of? any ideas? Thanks!

that's great to hear...my directv installer didn't even know of anything...you'd think they'd be more aware....he's still here, I'll let him know...thanks!

I had to have a wireless phone jack since my install in march, in my case it has worked just fine. go to radio shack and get one.

Do you not have interferance from using an electrical plug for the phone line? I have heard that these wireless phone jacks can have a lot of noise on them.

Unless you want to order PPV via the remote, there is really no reason to plug the reciever into the phone jack. Something to think about before you spend $30-$50 on a wireless phone jack.

If your installer has never heardof wireless phone jacks I would bea bit worried about the install.

install took 5 1/2 hours!!! so I was worried, and now a bit annoyed...but oh well, the installer seemed new,...when I had dish network at one point, they did a FULL install including all the wiring in under 2 hours...this guy today was able to use alot of the existing wiring dish network had setup before, and still took 5 1/2 hours!!!

In terms of using the phone line,...my main question is this...they say its necessary for tivo, and for updates, and for the schedule...is that true? or is it ONLY for pay per view...I don't mind spending $30 for the wireless jack, but if its only for pay per view, then I can run a wire whenever I need it...

if you have a tivo, it will be necesary, but only on occasion. if the box is not hooked up via phone, the box will not communicate with the tivo service, and after 30 days or so, you will start to get a nag screen about it. I have also read here that if you leave it too long, you loose the abillity to record.

About the electrical intereference, that may be an issue for houses with older wiring, but as I said before, my jack has worked flawlessly since march.

Also, if you get a wireless jack, try to make sure to get one that is certified for use with modems, those are more compatible for the sitution you have.

I have 2 DSR708's that I use wireless modem jacks with, and have never missed a daily call since installed.
