T-Mobile is asking the FCC to block Verizon from bidding on reserved spectrum in more than a dozen markets during the upcoming 2016 600MHz auction. For the auction the FCC set aside a "spectrum reserve" that only smaller carriers can bid on in the hopes of improving wireless competition. T-Mobile had originally wanted this reserve to be larger (40 MHz instead of 30 MHz), but had their request refused by the FCC.

Now T-Mobile is arguing that Verizon isn't being listed as eligible to bid on some of this reserve spectrum in areas they shouldn't be.

In a filing with the FCC, T-Mobile argues the FCC "incorrectly identified Verizon as reserve-eligible" in 12 markets across the country, including in Oklahoma, Texas, Illinois, South Dakota, and New Mexico. T-Mobile outlined Verizon's low-band spectrum holdings, arguing that Verizon "therefore has an interest in more than one-third of the suitable and available low-band spectrum and is ineligible for the spectrum reserve."

"Confirming the accuracy of the reserve-eligibility list will help achieve the important public interest goal of protecting against excessive concentration of low-band spectrum holdings by the nation's dominant wireless providers while ensuring competitive bidding," T-Mobile said in the filing.
