I hope Charlie gets the better of Viacom this time. I still remember when they dropped all their channels in their extortion attempt to get even more money from DISH subs. This time Charlie should return the favor.

Suddenlink has not had their channels for going on two years now and many other small providers dropped them permanently as well. If Dish drops them that will put a sting to Viacom. Dish just raised rates $5 so it would not help their cause as well.

With their falling ratings and their falling stock price, I think Viacom will have to take a rate cut or push channels up a package to keep existing rates, if it wants to stay on Dish. Personally, I'm not a big fan of the Viacom properties and programming, but I do think Dauman needs to go. The company became very stale under his leadership, doing nothing innovative since he took over, which has led to their double digit ratings fall and the precipitous fall in their stock

The reason why Viacom and Dish agree to a short term may have something to do with SlingTV, as Viacom would want their networks be streamed on the SlingTV internet TV service that Dish owns.

I'd almost bet that on Sling, maybe only one Viacom network joins the basic lineup and the rest are put into a $5+/mo Viacom Package. Probably MTV2 for basic? (It's in the Welcome Pack on Dish.)

Comedy Central likely.

Viacom really needs to consolidate some of these channels.

just wondering you guys if there will a agreement or contract will dish put the rest of the viacom channels in hd just poindering the idea

MTV has no idea who they even are anymore....past few nights Ive seen Ren and Stimpy on their channel (which they have played before and i actually still like) Other nights I see South Park on there and im like do they do any original programming or god forbid music videos anymore?? It seems MTV just shows shows from their other networks. The only good channel musically they own now is Mtv Live (Formerly Palladia).

I'm hoping for a contract and TVLand in HD. :)
metoo tvland also in hd i was checking out viacom website and there is a new channel called mtvu that you guys might want to check that dish might want to carry after negonations are done.
http://www.mtvu.com/ just telling you guys about the channel i sure appreciate it very much thanks i just dont need another vacation i just wanted to let you guys know about this upcoming channel i love this forum alot,

Pull the Viacom channels. This consortium of networks is nothing but garbage. Give us a rate break and pull ALL of these.

MTV/VH1 - total garbage. There are little, if any, music videos. Just another crapload of re-runs and silly (or stupid?) reality shows

Spike = re-runs. stupid reality shows.

Comedy Cenrtral - OK, some content, but not worth it if you have to buy the whole slate.

Nick - re-runs.

The rest? Garbage.

Either cut a deal to move these all to a specialty tier (call it the garbage tier?) or throw em out. Why do our bills have to raise for this garbage?

I can do without any of the Viacom channels. However I do watch Nick at Night and TV Land. As already mentioned TV Land in HD is must. (Well all channels that are in HD should be carried that way)

They've got something for everybody. TVLand and Nik @ Nite for us and several channels for my 10 year old too. :)

I made a very big stink when Dish dropped Fox News Channel, but they can drop the Viacom Channels for a few months and I would probably not even notice that they are gone. Low quality programming.

Hoping Charlie does win that one, but I am a fan of a few Viacom channels so that would be depressing. I go to CC everyday as my first choice. Since I subscribe to everything, I don't care if it moves packages, but would like something amicable. Not going to fight if it gets dropped as that is just a business decision.

In the olden days..Viacom was tied to CBS. .it was a much bigger deal

If Dish does make an agreement with Viacom i need Viacom to STOP blocking my ISP and let me log in using my TV provider(Dish) to watch full shows. Stinks i use Suddenlink for internet and Viacom still blocks 99% of their content if you show up as a Suddenlink IP address...
