My "Yamaha RX-V571 7.1 Channel Home Theater Receiver" stopped responding properly to HDMI handshake a few days ago. Luckily, I bought extended warranty! So I dropped it off at the Local Best Buy "Geek Squad" for them to fix the issue. To my delight, I was told that the issue could not be fixed and I was entitled to a replacement. My question is this; Since the Yamaha RX-V571 7.1 Channel Home Theater Receiver is no longer in production, which Home Theater Receiver do you guys suggest as a replacement receiver with equal or greater value?

If you like your Yamaha, with the x60 series being released, you might find a really good deal on the X50 series that's even a step up from your current receiver. I bought my first Yamaha in almost 20+ years (CX-A5100), and I absolutely love it. Otherwise Marantz are really nice, also.

We need to know a dollar value and it would help to know why you chose the RX-V571.

The closest Yamaha that Best Buy carries is the RX-V679 (a 2015 model with UHD capability) but even at their "clearance" price ($540), it is probably more than they'll pay. Amazon lists the RX-V679 for $400 and it is an awesome deal at that price.

Depending on how you feel about Sony, the STR-DN1070 is on sale at Best Buy for $499 (just a few dollars more than Amazon).

At this point in time, I can't recommend an AVR that doesn't support HDCP 2.2 ("4K ready" is NOT enough) if you see using the unit with a UHD TV.

A dollar amount would really help. The new rx-a760 can be had for 649. Looking at that one for my bedroom. I really don't like the Pioneer SC91 in there right now. The rx-v679 can be had for 399, but on Amazon. See of they'll price match. Are they crediting you what you paid? The 571 was 499 I believe.

I went for the Onkyo TX-NR646. I didn't want to go beyond the value of my extended warranty payout. In addition to other features, it has 4K capability, supports HDCP 2.2. and even has a "Phono input" The purchase included a 4 year extended warranty. Budgetary constraints didn't allow me to spend beyond my financial means. Didn't pay anything out of pocket! Thank you all for your suggestions! I will update you guys after I hook everything up! :D

I have completed the setup of the "Onkyo TX-NR646". I must say it plays beautiful sound. On the other hand, there is a deep (annoying) humming sound coming from the Sub-woofer after I shut-off the Onkyo TX-NR646 and all the units connected to it. The sound goes away about 6 minutes after it starts. I have checked and triple checked all the connections, and I still can't get rid of the issue.

I have an Onkyo 7.1 system and it has one really stupid function. When playing 5.1 content, the rear speaker content comes out of the 7.1 side speakers of the Onkyo and the 7.1 rears are silent. Why would they do that?!

5.1 doesn't support "back" speakers so the surround comes from the surround speakers that are, by definition, the side speakers. 7.x adds back speakers to 5.1. 9.x and Atmos add a set of "high" speakers that are above and perhaps a little outside the fronts. Here's a discussion and some diagrams:

You have a ground loop. Tough to track down and eliminate.

A good article is here: http://www.audioholics.com/home-theater-connection/ground-loops-eliminating-system-hum-and-buzz

Usually, ground loops occur when you have too many grounding points which are at different levels. At that point, signals get injected into the ground side of your signal path and cause this hum (usually 60 Hz). If you have manually used chassis grounds, try removing them. Try reversing power plugs if possible. If you are plugged into different breakers, try putting all power into one circuit. If none of that works, you can try an isolation transformer, or if you want to spend more money, a power conditioner. These will provide isolated power and eliminate long ground loop return paths. There are hum filters that can be placed inline on signal paths.

Sorry, but there is no silver bullet here. It is a long process, full of experimentation until you find something that works.

If you're using a UPS, see if connecting everything to the UPS helps (obviously it doesn't all have to be on the battery-backed side).
