I was taking my 1982 CJ-7 out for a weekend test spin in a Spokane neighborhood and bumped into this place. I have lived and worked here (Spokane Valley) for almost 12 years. I get my internet service from Comcast/Xfinity. I had NO idea that this facility existed less than 1 mile north of their main business office. The dish closest to me is a 10 footer. Live and learn.

Looks like a 24 footer in the middle.

I was US Army Satcom (in W Germany ) during the 1980's. We had an FSC-78 60 foot dish and a GSC-39 38 foot dish. The dish that I saw today is the biggest that I have seen in 30 years. After 2 years in W Germany I went to Honduras doing Tactical Satellite Communications with a 10 footer. I may be wrong, but the big dish looked at least 30 feet. I promise that I will ask and let you know.

May be, I was guessing. Looks like a 24 foot I have seen before, at a nearby cable company here.

Dish Network built a new facility here (west of Spokane) about 10 years ago. Next weekend I will check it out. I "think" the have 2 30 foot dishes. I will post a photo too. I forgot to mention that the US Army 10 footer was called a TSC-93.

PS - The Dish Network Facility has 10 dishes total.

Dish Network bought a LOT of land west of Spokane. I spent more time circling the place trying to get closer than I did driving there from my home. (14 miles) I counted 21 dishes from the gate, but there may be more. Here is the best picture that I got.

PS - I lived in Arizona when Dish built their up link facility in Gilbert. It was 30 feet from the main road. (mid 1990's)

I forgot to mention that Airway Heights is also the same town that Northern Quest Casino resides. The Friday Z Nation show (filmed here) implied that it was in Arizona. I apologize if I posted a spoiler. :)

I talked to some folks at the gate. They told me largest dish is 11.1 meters. (36.42 feet) I thought that it looked close to the size of GSC-39 (38 FT)

Sincerely,
Norman

Thanks for the follow up Norman. Yep that is a dandy! :)

You are welcome. Everyone was friendly because of the huge windstorm here on Monday. 60% of the Spokane County Avista customers have had no power since Monday. The Xfinity folks have lots of generator back up.

Dish did not build the Gilbert uplink facility. Rupert Murdoch did.

Charlie got it back in 1999 or 2000 when they acquired the 110 orbital position

Charlie screwed Rupert on that deal bad.
Small world. I lived 2 miles south of that Facility location from 1990 to 2004.
