T-mobile UN-carrier NEXT

Showing LTE only in your screenshots Don...which doesn't negate to phone use versus data use.

Just because Sprint doesn't have the entire country blanketed in LTE doesn't mean they don't have the ability to get to that. You do know that Sprint owns more spectrum than the other 3 carriers combined? Their band 41 is being leased and used for backhaul in some cases.

That may be fine for the business but is it for the customers? Actually, Sprint is not a bad stock to own for growth. I just would not want to be a customer.

I have both Sprint stock and been a customer for 8 years. When I first got them, I wouldn't wish their service on my dog, but it's so much better than it was 8 years ago that it's like a different company.

I saw an article that Qualcomm is being sued by the FTC because they paid off Apple back in 2007 to keep them from producing a WiMax capable chip. Got any idea where Intel and Sprint would be right now if WiMax hadn't fallen by the wayside? Thanks to Qualcomm's anticompetitive practices, WiMax never took off, in favor of LTE, so Sprint wasted millions on a tech that fell flat on it's face, taking Intel with it.

It's about time someone hit Qualcomm...they have about 80% of their profits in licensing...and the rest in chipmaking. China, EU, and S.K have already fined them MILLIONS for their anti FRAND and anticompetitive crap...
They basically ruined Sprint for years after the WiMax debacle...and Sprint finally, in 2014, shut down the WiMax network and started repurposing that spectrum for LTE with b41.

No I don't. Didn't know half of what you listed. But when it comes to investing or trading a stock, I don't fret of what could have been or should have been and just move on. I have a similar story on two REITS I lost quite a bit of money. Sometimes it is time to swallow hard and move on for those things I had no control over. As for being a customer, it is indeed harder to make a move due to the different technologies in the phones. Sometimes I think it would be nice to switch to AT&T but it is difficult. So I remain with Verizon until the advantage of switching out weighs the trouble. The good thing is we do have 4 major players to pick from. Pick what works for you and be happy you made the right choice.

I agree, it's harder to switch. People used to asked me "why do you stay with Sprint when it doesn't work half the time"....
My answer was the most simplistic. I don't like change. I hate changing phone numbers. In a time where everyone has gone to mobile-only for phones..I still have my Vonage account, along with the same phone number that i ported from AT&T back in 2007, when I went from home phone + DSL to naked DSL only and got VOIP for my home phone.
I only keep the landline because...well...I dunno. I even d/c it for 3 months, and decided to go back when they called me up and asked why I d/c my service. I was able to get the same number I had all along after a 3 month hiatus ..so I just continue paying the $25 every month.

Same for Sprint. Used to, back in 07, 08, 09...when I would arrive at my house, I would turn my cell phone off because it didn't have signal anyway. Once I finally decided to move away from Sprint, I called and told them, and they talked me into trying an "Airave"... And that kept me with them. I still use my Airave, but I also have service without the Airave...
LTE doesn't reach quite to my house from the closest town, but I'm good with that too. It's too rural to worry about having LTE..
If I really wanted LTE that badly, AT&T has a tower 1 mile away, and Verizon is colocated on the tower with AT&T...both serve LTE to this area.
I'm not paying the VZW price..and I despise AT&T for DSL..I sure don't want the headache of their cell phones to go along with that.

It works, like you said. So I stick with it.
If Sprint does acquire Tmo, I just hope they axe John. What Marcelo has done with Brightstar (or what he "did" with Brightstar)...he's got a good vision and true entrepreneur attitude..I think he would be best served in the CEO role for a combined Sprint + Tmo.
John is a liability. Especially if you're not in the millennial group that John targets with his "hip" attitude and frequent use of F-bombs.
Just not what I think a CEO should be, even tho he has done many things for the cellular world, he's still in the position to make money for the stockholders, and that's what he does. People like him because they think he is on their side, but he's in the position he's in because it attracts a certain group of people. And as long as Tmo is adding subs, he will stay in the "hipness" mode.
Look as his interview when he was with Global Crossing as CEO. It looks like he went from businessman to cokehead when he made the transition to Tmo CEO.

When comparing price only, Verizon, I believe is the big loser. When comparing companies for investors, AT&T is the big winner.
Comparing performance, Verizon is the big winner:

I invest long term in AT&T for the Dividend, but choose to use Verizon for service and deals on phone upgrades. Does Sprint even count anymore?

Don, that Sprint map is dated. Show's my area not being covered in LTE, which is not the case. I switched to Sprint a year and a half ago to save money and I've been happy with it. It hasn't let me down. I get great data coverage at work (3G but one mile down the road it switches to LTE) did not have that when I was with Verizon.

Why can't you port your current number over to a new carrier? I have done it. It is inconvenient fora day or so but then it is back to normal.

I can port, I just prefer to stick with the underdog. I like what Sprint is doing, and being as big into the tech as I am (tracking LTE progress, site builds, which bands are in what areas, etc)...and what I have versus what is available with other carriers..

My only options would be 1) AT&T...and I despise them with all there is within me. Every month, my DSL bill goes "over" their preset data limits that are imposed on DSL customers. Does Uverse have limits? yes...LOOSE 300gb cap that isn't imposed. Their fiber service? Yes, 1 TB limit that isn't imposed either.
So why do I get hit with a 150gb limit on my DSL? Why do I have to pay $10 for 50 packs over my initial 150..usually amounting to 250 or 300gb each month?
Why do I pay for 2 DSL lines, but they still hit me with this BS data cap? because GREED. I hate them. If I had a choice in internet, AT&T would be history.
IF the DSL debacle is any indicator of how they do business, then I damn sure don't want their cell phone service.

Then there's verizon. The guy (CEO) who said unlimited was dead, and that VZW would NEVER compete on price....meaning you'll always pay more for their service because they are "premium"...no thanks to that one.

Randall and Lowell can both do without my money. They are what's wrong with these companies...their vision is flawed, and they only worry about their profit, not what they are doing to their customers with their tactics.

Fortunately, I don't have a data cap with Comcast. Never did. It's one of the benefits of having a Comcast business account. The other is 90 Mbs down and 30 Mbs up sustained. None of the advertised 120 Mbs but when tested that is a peak and for sustained it can drop to 20Mbs depending on mow many neighbors are on the node. But I also pay for that level of service, about 3 times what consumers pay. I can stream 3 HD netflix movies here in HD to ipads and stream an Amazon UHD to the home theater with no buffering.

A couple times a year the Comcast service goes out for no reason but it is always back up by 9 AM. So to back up, I installed a couple wifi cards in my two computers that I had just ethernet. Then I connect to my iphone as a hotspot with Verizon LTE. That never seems to go out.

historically sprint, any service of sprint SUCKS. their name on anything is a skull and cross bones to me...........

rose had a job that provided her with a sprint hot spot, it never worked well for me...
.
we were on verizon cell, rose is saving big bucks. she moved to total wireless, and i am about too also.

total wireless operates on the verizon network

My company had us on Sprint until 2012 then they switched us to AT&T. Sprint voice was okay, but the data was so slow it was unusable. At the time they were building out their 4G LTE network and it might be better now. I'd probably do Cricket or T-Mobile if I needed a personal phone.
