4K Joey Netflix...........

After retiring from a Fortune 50 company, I find that rarely what the "consumer" is told is all of the story. We need Paul Harvey to give us "The rest of the story".

I base my statements on the dreaded "Coming Soon" that Dish had on the OTA channels for years! You couldn't add or remove channels for years, so much so I haven't even checked in the last six month, can we now? The 4K Joey was suppose to allow 4K content for the people who had 4K TVs. So far only a few Pay for view. I have ordered some to see the quality vs a 4K movie, and though it is good, IMO it doesn't (Dish 4K Pay For View) hold a candle to a 4K movie. I'm not asking for miracles, I just would like to at least watch Netflix on 4K the way I was told I could when I purchased it.

I have been with Dish since 1999, so I'm not a fair weather fan. When I say I don't expect it, I say some of it in jest, but some of it I really believe in the back of my mind from the broken promises in the past.

So far with my current set up, I am somewhat happy. I have an H3, 4K Joey, and four WJ's.

My dislikes:

1. How it just does a update even if you are watching TV at night.
I have changed the times, etc, but next thing I know it does un update, and if you have strange working hours, guess what you loose your TV while it updates.
Instead of stating what is actually whats going on, it gives you a message to unplug your device, but you don't really need to.
2. Sometimes it will loose all your PTAT recordings, or revert to one day, not very often, but it does
3. I don't like how you can't toggle between shows and rewind them like I could on my 722
4. I don't like how they don't have a better OTA dongle (and have quit making the current one). I do hear they may be coming out with a dual OTA, which would be good (Coming Soon.....?)
5. How sometimes you can't see all your recordings on the 4KJ, or the WJ, until a reset (this is not a common problem, to everyone, but sometimes happens to me)
6. SLOOOOOOW HDD response at times. This one I don't get, some times it's snappy, other times slow. My connection is wired at 300Mb, so connection speed isn't the problem, and the HDD is 7200RMP USB3

I like
1. 16 (17 with OTA) channels
2. The external HDD to save shows
3. Speed vs the H1
4. Wireless Joeys
5. PQ vs our local cable
6. The remotes (I like them all). I like the 40 because it can operate my TV, 4KP, Receiver
7. The new software upgrade so when I turn of a unit, everything turns on (no more crappy overpriced all-in-one remotes)

These aren't all my likes and dislikes, just what popped in my head at the time. Like I said, I'm somewhat happy with Dish, but I know I could be much happier if they would just do a few additional things. With ATT buying Direct TV, and pushing the unlimited data for phone usage if you switch, I can see how some Dish customers would switch. I wish Dish and another Cellular carrier would join forces and combat DTV, as I feel Dish is superior to them.

Really I have no plans to move from Dish, and I wish them a strong bottom line, as that makes it better for us (or at least I hope and think so). I guess I think so highly of Dish, I have just expect more.

4. I don't like how they don't have a better OTA dongle (and have quit making the current one). I do hear they may be coming out with a dual OTA, which would be good (Coming Soon.....?)

The new dual-tuner OTA adapter has been released, and is available @ Dish Depot link below (not sure when Dish itself is going to be selling it yet), with the caveat that it only works as a single-tuner at present until a software update "soon" that is supposed to activate the second of the adapter's two OTA tuners. Given the tone of your overall post, I'll let you draw your own conclusions as to what "soon" ultimately means in this instance. ;)

Folks, I am just trying to get a refund of my $50
Return the 4K and get a Joey 2.0. They won't refund the $50 as its been too long. I just want to watch Dish and Netflix from the same box, its that simple.

If I had a photo saying Netflix would be All Feb 18th 2016 or what ever it used to say, it would help when I am talking to EXEC Dish Support, right now they are denying it ever used to say that or that Netflix was ever promised to be all at a later date.
Only photo I have is the Avl Soon one.
I thought I saw the a photo out there with the date once. I saw the message personally on my Joey 4k but don't think I took a photo as I trust Dish would deliver someday.
I also know Netflix worked fine on the Joey 4K as I had it for a few days during a test (I think they sent it by mistake to all of us.

Even if it said that, you still wouldn't be due a refund. Remember, if they were to credit it back, it'd be a courtesy, but since no software feature is guaranteed, no refund is due. Your service agreement says as much. This may help with expectations on your talks.

DISH Network L.L.C. today is announcing a wide selection of Ultra HD content to be available on the upcoming Hopper 3 and 4K Joey, including a collection of 4K Sony Pictures movies and a wide selection of 4K action, thriller, romance and independent movies from The Orchard and Mance Media. The Netflix app, available on Hopper 3 and 4K Joey, will also offer customers a catalog of 4K TV shows and movies, without the need to switch inputs or devices.

(snip)

4K titles from Sony Pictures, The Orchard, Mance Media and Netflix can be accessed from a 4K Joey client connected to any generation Hopper. A whole-home Ultra HD experience is available to customers with a Hopper 3 and one or more 4K Joeys.

Just to be clear, Dish doesn't "owe" you the Netflix app on the 4K Joey. But, since the executive 'team' at Dish is lying that Dish said it would ever be available, well, that's not right for them to do....

I found a new way to reset my Hopper 3 from the bedroom: try to play back the 4K BBC America "Planet Earth II". So much easier than Menu-Menu-Tools-Right to Reset Hopper. The weird thing is I can tune in channel 540 live and watch high-def sand dunes all day, but I can't watch the show, apparently.

4K Joey, U475.

Regarding Netflix, if Dish just removed channel 370 from the guide, the Netflix App from the Apps list, and the "Press Play to watch Netflix Now" screen prompts, that would make it better. Why tease us with something that isn't available? That's such a Comcast move, Dish. You're better than that!

Thank you. Calling them back Tuesday, the person gave me a direct number.
Again, I just want to return the 4k and get a normal Joey that comes with Netflix. And I would like my $50 back.
I know that done have to as their contract is written in a way that they can promise , say or give us ANY CHANNEL and APP and then take it away at anytime and we can't get out of the contract. It is written very sound. Would cost too much to test in court, we are talking just $50
Beside they don't believe that they ever even said it would have Netflix so I got something to prove to make me feel better I guess.

Just wanted to register my disappointment that the Netflix app does not work on the 4k Joeys.

I just switched my folks from Direct to Dish -- the install included one Hopper3 and three 4kJoeys. Install went smoothly, equipment is running fine (voice-enabled remote works very well from 4k Joey). For now, the improved interface and responsiveness of the hardware is a significant improvement, but I'm wearing a little egg on my face in regards to the Netflix app not functioning. Yes, there are alternatives, but for my folks, I had sold them on things becoming easier with the change. Put me down as requesting that Dish enable a standard HD Netflix app on the 4k Joey in the meantime.

DISH has a very funny new commercial, all about the convenience of being able to switch to Netflix without switching inputs on the TV.

Doesn't appear that the marketing department has gotten the word about the 4K Joey...

The fine print on the ad does say that you need an Internet connected Hopper 3. All others need not apply, I guess...

Dish has A LOT of receivers that have no Netflix option. Since the Hoppers are certainly one of Dish's most popular receiver model, the commercial is perfectly fine.

The name of the thread is "4k Joey Netflix..." -- with the 4k Joey, they marketed and are selling a receiver which *features* an icon to an app that does not function in Dish's whole-home DVR solution. I'm not saying the commercial is entirely misleading, but Dish has advertised a feature on the 4k Joey that has not been implemented for over a whole year!

Then your post about the commercial is in the wrong thread

You must be new to Dish, yes? Don't worry, Netflix will be working on the 4K Joey soon. My brother-in-law's nephew knows a technician and he told him that.

Anyway, it's a great commercial.
