Can anyone recommend a company that I can go thru to activate and register my Dish Network, even though I live in the Toronto area. It is/was activated with Dish and I was being charged via my credit card but went down yesterday. Looking to change providers, not impressed with the one I have, bad customer service. Thanks very much.
P.S.; wife and in-laws are Chinese and Dish has the best mainland package, wish BEV or any other Canadian provider offered a similar service.

Try posting on Craigslist. All you need is someone to take the mail addressed to you and throw it out - rather than return it to the sender. As you know, you can set up the account to be pd. automatically by credit card.
Your only problem will be calling DISH when you need to unless they have a non toll free number you can call. BEV has a 416 number I can call from the states.
PM me for further info.

You can call Dish 1-800 from Canada...

Just use an AT&T phone card from WalMart. It is not cheap (about 20 cents a minute) but it is alot easier than getting my sister in law in Tampa do make a 3 way call. Be prepared - if you own your equipment, they will want a social security number to do a credit check. In a country like the US, I find it hard to believe that they so willingly give up such personal information. In Canada, you have the right to turn down requests for this info.

Dish Audit

What are the chances of dish calling for an audit on two receivers ?

If I'm in Canada and I subscribe with an american number they won't be able to call me.

Does anyone know how many times they call before your services gets cancelled?

Dish doesnt have a rhyme or reason on how many receivers you have for a audit call. I've heard of people with 2 recievers getting a call

The newer receivers such as the 211 show a big red / through the phone on the info page when they have not called in for a while.

My Vip211 did not call in for 3 weeks (I had all the other connected up to phone lines and was out of phone lines) and they decided to call me for an audit. It had called in outside of that 3 week window - on both sides.

Quite frankly, I am beginning to think a Vonage account is a must for Dish in Canada.

Not sure why you would want to spend the money for Vonage. As long as all of your receivers are connected to your phone line there shouldn't be a problem with Dish. I've been a customer for more then 5 years with both mine connected without a problem. My receivers call in every month although not always the same day or time. Keeping them all connected is the key!

Dishpro 500,

Leaving your receiver plugged in is not going to help as I am sure the number it dials is unreachable from Canada.

Well as mentioned in my previous post I've been a Dish customer for 5 years now and my phone line has been plugged in the entire time. I order PPV movies from time to time and the receiver dials out to send the info to Dish. The purchase shows up on my invoice so yes their number does work from Canada. If the phone line is not plugged in and you have more than one receiver you more then likely will get an audit call from Dish.

As noted before, my Vip211 was unplugged from the phone for 2 1/2 weeks - thats all. And I received the audit.

They stated to keep the units plugged in to which i responded they were.

They went back, checked and said "yes, we see they have all called in now" and suggest that if someone was on the phone when it tried to dial previously, then it would not dial out (duh) and that would trigger an audit.

Dishpro 500,

You are a brave man plugging in your receiver from Canada. I'd think they would flag any out of country numbers some how.

But then again they are more than happy to turn a blind eye and take your money just like ExpressVU and Starchoice do to their "southern" subscribers.

If I knew it was this easy I'd be tempted to buy a 622 and sub to DISH myself.

P.S. There is nothing in your signature or profile that tells us that you are a Canadian subscriber ;)
