Azimuth and point angle for 129 using DISH 500 second dish

Live in the L.A. area, where the 129 signal is not so good for the DISH 1000. Thought I might try my number two dish, currently pointed at 148, for 129, since I will have no need for 148 now. Having trouble finding a chart for determining the azimuth and point angle for 129, for zip 92802.

Any help appreciated.

Just enter 129 manually and select L.A. It gives me elevation 48.9 and Azimuth 198.7.

I wonder why 129 has never been added to the E* angle calculator built into their receivers.

No kidding. It's been active for so many months now and the receivers don't have the angle calculator. I think they expect you to use the D1000 if you want to see 129.

Probably a dumb question, but wouldn't the elevation be the same for 110, 119, and 129 with 129 being a little further west than 119? So the elevation used for 119 should work with the 129, right? I don't think the skew would matter much since you are trying to pick up one sat.

Like I said, this is my amateur understanding of how Dish works so please correct me if I am wrong.

Just for fun, I ran the numbers from the site so graciously provided by RandallA. Got the elevation numbers for my location (L.A.), which confirm your suspicion: 110 is at 49 degrees; 119 at 50.5; and 129 at 48.9. And, yes, 129 is further west, at 198.7, before adjusting for magnetic north, vs. 165 degrees for 110 and 181 for 119. Where is gets weird is the "skew" (rotation of the dish face), with values all over the place. In my case, I would be just after the 129 bird with my current 148 dish, the other dish already locked into 110/119.

Did they install a d1000 for your 110/119 sat's? I asked them to do this for me and the 110 signal strength dropped into the 80's - still usable but I was suprised that it fell so much. I used to be close to 100 with the d500.

The 129 sat d500 gets mid 60's with 71 on TP23 the highest. TP8 and 19 carry the LA locals and they are the lowest at 64 and 67. Do you get better than this?

Still to be determined. I get the 622 next week. Since I don't need the 148, I am thinking of rotating the single purpose second dish over to the 129 location to see how good it will come in. I keep reading the horror stories about the weak 129 signal on the west coast, would hate to lose the good 110/119 signal I now get on my DISH 500 as well, if I get a D1000 changeout.

Numbers and compasses have never really helped me. I just keeping moving till I get a signal

I had my 148 dish realigned to pick up 129. They replaced the d500 that picked up 110/119 with a d1000 and installed the 129 lnb from the d1000 on the d500. It took a little explaining to the installers, but once they got the idea and saw the signal strength for 129 they were sold on the idea.

My thinking is that once the 129 problem is resolved then I can move the 129 lnb back to the d1000 and get rid of the d500 dish. Hopefully I won't need to have the d1000 repeaked, but we'll see how that works out.
