go to www.antennaweb.org and type in your location. It will show you the frequencies and locations of all stations digital and analog or just one or the other.
The channel and the frequency is not the same thing. I found this article on Wikipedia, which should answer your questions.

Here is how it looks in antenna web. the channel is 5.1

The tuner will scan in the station on channel 53. When you want to watch you tell the tuner to select 5.1.
It is counterintuitive but that is correct. Once the scan is done you have no reason to recall the actual channekl number---only the channel number "assigned" to it.
This lets the stations that have invested a lot in their number identity, keep it. It also avoids confusion as frequencies are reassigned in the digital conversion process. You can always call up channel 7, just like you always have. You just might also have a 7-2, 7-3 etc.
I know the tuner in my TV will pick up on it but I have yagi style antenna with a rotor and I would like to setup my perfect vision digiair meter with the frequency so I can tune the antenna in outside
Found the answer to my question. For those out there who would like to find the actual freq. of the stations transmission use this link http://www.arrl.org/tis/info/catv-ch.html
Just use the channel assigment given at antenna web and look up the freq. I used the freq. in my digiair and was able to pin point the towers. Thanks for all the advise
