I just became aware of FTA.
I would like to stop paying for Dishnetwork.
Can I get the major networks on FTA?
My wife needs them.
What is the best equipment to buy to get going?
Not the ultimate but good.
Can I use any of the Dishnetwork equipment?
Sam

There are some networks on FTA KU Band. Fox & ABC, My Net, Univision, Telefutura. No CBS or NBC on FTA (NBC is but you would need a PC card and not a receiver)

check out the review section on receivers. I have the Coolsat 5000 and love it

not really. You can get the audio channels (the CD music from 920-983), NASA and Angel One but thats about it. You need a 30" or larger dish and a KU Band LNB

Hey Ice, ... I haven't been down there for awhile but during the NASCAR season, I saw all the races on NBC. As a matter of fact (I'm only home on weekends) there was always some combination of NBC, MSNBC, or CNBC on all weekend.. And I would sometimes even watch Sunday night football on NBC. Is this a regular thing or just some wild feeds that happened to be on when I happened to be lookin???

You can install a tv antenna for your locals assuming you have them available in your area. Most FTA receivers have an antenna input. Winegard makes a Square Shooter antenna which is about the size of an 18 inch dish and is non-obtrusive. This one and others would be available probably in your local area or at Sadoun and Solid Signal on the internet. Be sure and get one with a pre-amplifier.

FTA is NOT...repeat, is NOT a substitute for your Dishnet programming. Although there is ABC and Fox as stated before. G10R will probably have the most programming you'll want to see. My personal favorite is RTN.

If you consider FTA as a good alternative to your regular Dish programming as I do... you won't be disappointed. ;)

Enjoy.

Unless your above the age of 45 or so, The older generation (like myself) would rather watch mash, wild wild west, hawaii 5-0 and magnum than the garbage on nets today.:D :D :D

Welcome to Satellite guys! I too wanted to cut the cords of cable and dishnetwork a couple of years ago. I did and have never looked back. On the Ku side there is some good programing on f2Air, RTN, Whitesprings TV is full of great old movies, Yesterday USA radio from the golden age of radio is all available along with 100's of other stations. Not having a satellite background I installed my own moving dish myself. and after 3 weeks of no signals I am completely satisfied. If you have the room and the knowledge you might consider a big dish. I just picked up an old offset c band dish for free and hooked it up for additional signals. All the networks are up there on the C-band side on G-16. Along with BBC Worldwide, VSEN, and WHT. Just to name a few. Free to air, is really no substitute for dishnetwork, and the convienence of a programing guide, but I don't really want to know what's is on I want to know what else is on! So the chase is on! With new channels to find almost every other day.
