Greetings,

Look time reader of this forum but now have a problem. My gf and I recently broke-up so she moved out. The DISH service is in her name, but I would like to keep everything as is with the Vip 622 and add another receiver for my new roommate.

We called DISH today and they told me they could not switch the account to my name. In fact, she would have to disconnect service and I would have to start a whole new account. An installer would then have to come out and install everything back the way it is right now plus add the other receiver.

Is there anyway around this if I escalate the issue?

Thank you!

Haha thanks, if it were that easy!

I mean I used to work at phone company that wasn't always cutting edge but we could change liability on accounts! AT&T said no as well so I had do a whole new account with them. But at least they aren't going to have to bring out a new modem!

I will try it. I also don't want to pay an early term fee, since the account is 8 months into the 18 month contract.

Trust me, she would want me to pay half the ETP :) She doesn't need to move the service since her new condo has satellite service already through the association.

But if I figure my half right, it would be about $60, and I would qualify for the $10 off and the HDTV $10 off again. So I would come out ahead...I just don't want any downtime!

Hmm, Dish builder is saying the DVR fee is $11.96 with 1 Vip 622 and 1 regular receiver. Plus the additional receiver fee is on there. What the!?

I had the same thing a few years ago when I got divorced and they changed it no problem. However I know things don't work as easy now.

Well I tried to setup an account on my own after my ex- decided to move the service after all (I guess she doesn't get free satellite). Anyway, thanks to my less than perfect credit I didn't qualify for the DHA.

So I call in and was told in order to get Dish, I need to pay $300 to get the ViP 622 and another receiver for the 3rd TV.

Is there anyway around this? I will glady provide a credit card for autopay (which I did online but it didn't matter).

My other choice is to go to the other satellite guys, but I like the ViP 622 since I can watch my recorded shows on either of my TVs.

She can do it, you can't. Only the authorized account holder can transfer account authorizations. There's few other reasons they wouldn't do it. Usually it's only if they doubt the identify of the person on the other side of the phone, such as if you call from a non-residential phone number that doesn't pull the account.

Sounds like the best thing to do is to do nothing and leave it as is. Do the credit card autopay and keep your address and let the contract run out then see if you can transfer account to your name. Its the GF credit rating thats in jeopardy if she wants out of the contract, let her pay the early termination fee

To my knowledge , no..It's not your account...The only way this can be done is if she cancels..In this case, she is most likely leasing the EQ. The EQ will have to be sent back.....But not to worry, the only things thta go back are the recivers and the LNB..The dish stays unless she gets real vindictive and removes it. So it really is no big deal to get a new system installed...Call Dish and see how long it will take.If that is not satisfasctory, go on to Dish's webby and look up retailers in your area...

Our account was under my wife's name. When she past away in Jan they added my name but kept her name first. Any mail I get is addressed to her - which just reminds me thats she's gone.

He said his ex-girlfriend is transferring the account to her condo after all. There's nothing to pay half of now, no ETF, etc. He's on his own now, literally.... He failed the credit check and has to BUY the 622 outright or at least put a substantial down-payment on it.

Unless he can convince his ex to go to cable and let him keep the Dish service AND PAY IT, he's out of luck.

Have your mother call DISH Network, say she is your girlfriend and with the both of you on the phone they should transfer the account into your name.

Other than that, just keep paying it. Dish could care less wether the actual account holder lives at the address as long as they get their money every month!
