Does anyone have any experience with the Moteck H180 Motor?
Can it be used with an offset dish?
What is the width of the two mounts which attach the motor to the dish?

I hate to see this thread not get any play.

From past reading , I was under the impression several users had gotten these motors.
Search through the posts - you may find your answers.
If not, then pound on the users who have them, and get 'em to tell us more. :)

As for using an offset dish, if it's not too big, you can offset it (down) with your own bracketry, I suppose.
I can see a 4' offset working pretty well.
As for swinging the 6' offset dishes, I think they'd be too heavy, regardless.

You could always get a Jaeger SMR 1224 motor and a V-box. I think it was a user by the name of Likvid who posted a short movie of that setup on this site. They are quite noisy which is what is keeping me from purchasing one(neighbors are quite close) .I too would like to hear about the Moteck 180. I have a Winegard 1 meter that is heavy also...29lbs on my bathroom scale.:eek:

You might check its actual weight against the load the H-180 can handle.

PopcornNmore put his CM 1.2 on an SG2100.

On a slightly different path, give this thread TurboSat wrote a little peek.
He used an offset dish on a recycled C-band mount.
There are a few obvious mechanical considerations, but it got the job done.

And for a low cost motor, I found one and asked a few questions about it.
No one seemed too excited, so maybe it wasn't all that big a deal.
Still, I thought $40 for an 18" should be good enough for a 1.2m dish.
I remember a picture somewhere showing such a hookup... z4cCamaro posted it a while back.

But, linear actuator or the Moteck H-180, you'll need a V-box to run it.
They seem to be down in the $50 - $75 range, these days.

You should be fine with proper brackets to attach the H180 to your offset dish.
Yea, and just so long as you come pretty close, the Moteck declination adjustment should dial you right in.
Might want to get an inclinometer - I have one, and wouldn't leave home without it. ;)
 
I assume that I do not need a separate skew adjustment between the motor and the dish (like with most H-H motors) -is this true?

Also, does anyone know the width of the mounting brackets which are connected to this motor?
 
Sadoun should really take a crummy little motion picture (with a cell phone maybe?) showing the motor moving back and forth.
Perhaps both with and without a dish on it.

First time I looked at the static pictures of the motor, I couldn't figure out what the heck I was looking at.
Think I saw more pictures of similar units in Europe. (some in motion!)
Also found some user pictures of it in other positions.
That's when I realized what it was and what it could do.

It skews your LNB as it moves the dish, just like an HH90 or SG2100

As for measurements, I know they're good to have, but I'd buy one without concern.
Measure and cut-to-fit.
You may not appreciate that idea, but after looking at it more closely, I have the confidence to say that.

Keep in mind that the declination adjustment is just that and shouldn't be (and can't probably be) used to account for the approx. 22 degree bracket needed for mounting an offset dish. You'll have to fabricate the bracket.

The Moteck is a polar mount designed for a prime focus (non offset) dish.
