    Please DISH get METV back!

Its been a few years since DISH took off METV over a dispute. And I am really hoping DISH will get METV back. Yes I get METV (and METV +) OTA but there is no Guide Data. After meeting Svengoolie at Team Summit a few years ago, I have become a big fan of his show. And its a big pain to record...

Comet is my last remaining good channel for movies.

Telemumdo has great movies…. I guess their audience is desired and watches OTA. In my area Heroes & Icons plays all the different Star Trek series one after the other. But I agree, I only tend to watch movies on Comet. Many people just stream free TV now because it is easier.

What’s the difference between a DIRECTV SWM and a DSWM?

By now, if you’re a DIRECTV fan, you’ve heard the term “SWM.” Most people pronounce it “swim” and have since its release in 2009. It’s a technology that DIRECTV uses to allow for one wire to carry all DIRECTV information. This makes installations a lot easier. But the last couple of years you...

fail2ban can parse all manner of text from a log. It isn't limited to failed logins. If there's a pattern (such as a "[security2:error]") and an IP address, that's all you need to get the address blocked at the operating system level (extremely efficient). Getting the database involved...

I know that, Bobby have posted each other many times about the price of homes there, when I was offered a job in California. To be fair, you have posted that you do not see anything after others have said they have had issues. Just had another one about 10 minutes ago, I was trying to reply to...

FAST Channels added to DIRECTV Stream/Internet

Because a satellite-configured Gemini streams DIRECTV content exclusively from its associated Genie. If the Genie can't bring it in, the Gemini can't stream it.

Fail2ban is mainly good for remote login failures. We use ModSecurity to actually examine all the packets and we are subsribed to a database so it checks everything against the database. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ModSecurity Its funny to watch, we get a lot of hack attempts but most...

    From DISH about Locals

Considering the "opt-out" is right there on their main page, I hardly consider it "unadvertised": (and I'm SURE the locals are NOT happy about this!) Don’t need local channels? Select to remove the local channels, and the price will decrease by $12/mo. in the cart at check out. Remove Locals

Maybe fail2ban could be used to swat the DOS attacks on the main server at least.

Does your TV work with MPEG-4? Here’s how to know for sure

Back in the 80s, High Definition was the buzzword, and it was more or less assumed that Japan would end up setting the (or, a) standard. However, they were working on an analog system ('Muse,' if I recall) that was a bandwidth hog, while meanwhile we managed to assemble that erstwhile group of...

Sustainability in the Workplace: How Electronics Can Reduce Environmental Footprints

Sustainability is a noble, praiseworthy goal for modern business. Achieving more sustainable operations will resonate well with consumers. One in four consumers are willing to pay more for eco-friendly products, and 11% say they make purchases based on carbon data availability. However...

Does your TV work with MPEG-4? Here’s how to know for sure

If you have a smart TV built in the last 15 years (possibly earlier), it is likely MPEG4 capable. If it isn't a smart TV, it doesn't matter. No long-winded discussion or homework assignment is required.

Warner, Fox, Disney to Launch Streaming Sports Joint Venture

And no one is forcing them to accept Disney’s terms for example, they can also walk away and then have a channel(s) dispute. Which just happen with Fubo, they did not agree with Warner on the price for carrying the Discovery Channels, Fubo dropped them yesterday.

Warner, Fox, Disney to Launch Streaming Sports Joint Venture

I think that's exactly it. There's nothing in their contracts that says they must sell the product through them. In fact, you can't have exclusive distribution rights because then the others couldn't. This is no different than Apple selling phones at AT&T stores but also selling direct. Or...

THROWBACK THURSDAY: Five Years of weBoost Drive Reach

When you have a piece of tech from five years ago that’s still a top seller, you know you have something special. It’s pretty rare if you think about it. Would you be happy with an iPhone 11 or Galaxy S8 even if you bought it new today? Would a five-year-old laptop suit your needs, even if it’s...

When should you use a Broadband DECA?

What you see above you is our DECA Broadband, also called Broadband DECA. The two terms have been competing for years. It doesn’t really matter what you call it. (At one time it was called a Cinema Connection Kit, but that term has gone by the wayside.) It’s a device that connects your entire...
