Teardown video/photos of Hopper 3 or similar receivers

Here's a great teardown video I found of the Dish receiver 811 (Bell model) but that's so old. But in contrast to what cpdretired said, it's not about hacking - it's about learning the engineering and science of it and you can see this guy is enthusiastic and trying to see how everything works...

Better get Netflix for NFL on Xmas

Do you mean the locals only deal that Comcast offers, where they then add the broadcast channels fee to it, plus the other fees and taxes, makes it then more then YTTV? Why? All I have wrote, it is ignorance to believe rules/laws cannot be changed.

Is it time to upgrade your KVH satellite TV system?

KVH is a company with a long history of innovation. Beginning in 1984, they’ve been on the forefront of marine satellite tech. They debuted their first marine satellite antenna in 1994, just as the direct-to-consumer satellite market was starting to take shape in the United States. Since then...

Does your cell booster need an LPDA?

If you’re a regular reader of this blog, you’re probably convinced that cell phone boosters are a great idea. They’re real, they work, and they’re not that expensive. I certainly don’t need to sell you on the idea of having better signal, and cell phone signal boosters provide it. They take weak...

Problems with your marine DIRECTV system? Here’s the one thing you MUST check

I’m always amazed by how well marine satellite systems work. Think about this for a second. You have a satellite in space 22,000 miles away. It’s hard enough to aim at that if you’re in a house. Now think about your boat constantly moving in 3D space, and the fact that your satellite system may...

Which LNB is for which satellite?

You would think with 129 being retired and offline, Dish would start issuing a newer version of the "old" WA LNB they once used specifically for 110 & 119. They'd save millions....

Looking for better TV reception? Just add height!

Trust The Antenna Guy's experience. Height plus position is important. Just a few feet left or right can make a noticeable difference in reception strength. Especially in hilly locations.

Looking for better TV reception? Just add height!

Cutting the cord is more popular than ever. If you follow the trends, it’s possible that by 2020, more people will be using TV antennas than ever before. Let that sink in. More people will be using TV antennas than they did in the 1950s, when there was literally no other choice. Wow. Antenna...

Teardown video/photos of Hopper 3 or similar receivers

It’s interesting that I can find way more interior pictures and videos on the web of a VCR that I had in 1985 than of the Hopper 3. I suppose that's partly because VCRs are really complex beasts and you really do find a bunch of interesting stuff going on when you take the cover off. As things...

Which LNB is for which satellite?

I believe this to be accurate. In theory since the separation in degrees of each lnbf, would work for other satellites spaced by the same amount. Edit: And why peaking signal for the center lnbf and then tweaking the skew angle would help get max. signal for the outer ones.

Better get Netflix for NFL on Xmas

I venture to guess that 2029 is too far away to guess any of this. At that point, we might have just two competing streaming options Global Megacorp (Google's service) and Mega Global Corp (Disney's service) after all the merging is completed. We can safely assume the cable distribution is...
