EchoStar/Dish raises doubts about 'ability to continue as a going concern'

My 88 year old neighbor is quite comfortable using YTTV as her primary provider. She also makes good use of her Firestick remote's voice option for finding programs on other apps without a lot of manual searching. She tells it what she wants (big Naked & Afraid fan) and only needs a couple of...

    How things have changed

Of course it won't be that quick. More likely a series of cutbacks until there is no longer enough people to keep the service functional. Dropping program providers would be a likely first move along with call center layoffs. Discontinuing new subscriptions would be another early move in...

EchoStar/Dish raises doubts about 'ability to continue as a going concern'

People are just set in their ways..they always paid by check...memorized the channel number of their favorite shows..they just want to push the easy button...some people love change but sometimes new technology feels like going backwards instead of forward..especially streaming where you can't...

    How things have changed

Of course, your saying everyone is losing subs .... A large part of that is because we have a whole Generation that would rather spend thier life playing games on thier Xbo or Playstation or playing shoot em up games instead of growing up and getting a Real Job so they can afford to have a...

So, you too think that the day they are not making money, they will shut down that next day .... The Stock Market has had a Ton of losing days, but I'm still Making Money.

EchoStar/Dish raises doubts about 'ability to continue as a going concern'

Exactly... Our local seniors center has various level IT courses they offer regularly. The entry and intermediate courses are almost always fully booked. The advanced course less so, but is still always nearly fully booked. I used to teach all three levels, but my travel and now health...

    How things have changed

So, you think the minute they are not making money, its done .... ???? How many companies are currently out there NOT making money, but still operating ... plenty. Not Making money and "Going out of Business" is two entirely different things.

    How things have changed

It is predicted to increase for Cable/Satellite for the next few years. DirecTV (company) is losing over 500,000 a quarter, confirmed here- DIRECTV's video subscriber base (combined DIRECTV, U-verse, DIRECTV STREAM) is the second largest traditional multi-channel video programming distributor...

    How things have changed

Irrelevant... At some point the Orby folks decided the service was not financially viable and they shut it down. Dish could very well do the same thing given Echostar's precarious financial condition. Large and small companies have shut down losing services, products, or divisions regularly...

    How things have changed

Yes it will, do you actually believe when the company is losing money, no hope for a turn around, they will keep service up just so not to hurt the subscribers left? Not how business economics works.

    How things have changed

Orby wasn't a company that has been in business for 30 years .... Most never even knew they existed.

How bad did it get for Orby before they decided to "just turn OFF the Signal and go home"?

The Zapperbox M1 Now Records ATSC 3.0 DRM Channels!

Oh, I'll admit they seem to have by FAR the best tech team, and a nice device. I just think it's overpriced by at least triple what it's worth.

no picture. signal resolution is on most of the times then goes off briefly, all buttons on the remote work but I never get a picture. It's an AMIKO

Bill, we need a lot more information, or description as this post doesn't have enough info to tell anything, sorry. What sort of dish, KU or C-band, what is your hookup, any switches, did it EVER work, etc.

    Newest H3 software.

On the H+, not sure is it because of P12801 or H374 but it seems the nightly reboots is only rebooting the H+ and not the H3 as it will reboot with the something is not right and also, the recordings recorded during the nightly reboots as I have something from 12:45AM-3:15AM when nightly reboot...

Welcome to Satellite Guys! By 'signal resolution' do you mean the signal quality reading is good most of the time? Which satellite/channels are you trying to get? P.S. I will be heading to bed soon. If you don't hear from me tonight that's why. I (or someone else) will get back to you after...

    110/119 Listings Post 129 Transition (Updated 4/13/2024)

This past week Dish removed channels 144 and 145 - they were the ESPN alternate channels. I don't recall the last time they were used. In the past they were used for the reverse mirrors of games on ABC/ESPN2 as well as the women's NCAA basketball tournament. But the past couple of years those...

As in the above, signal resolution is good MOST of the time, then fades to nothing then comes back. All responses from the remote are ok. I just never have a picture to show. It's a newer AMIKO receiver, about a year old.

Thank-you. Actually I just found info on Wiki How that said that the Hopper 3, Hopper Duo or Hopper with sling receivers have wireless wifi on board so that should be the answer. But I will discuss all of this with the installer 1st & then go from there. It's just hard to make a change after 27...

    New Install, new equipment?

Dish and Direct merging at some point is the only path forward, just like Sirius and XM. There will always be a market for satellite tv for the foreseeable future, but the market share is certainly shrinking every day. We’ll also see streamers and tv providers continue to consolidate and merge...
