    Dish Letter for outdated equipment

612's are and 211K's have been. Try getting one replaced. You cannot. I haven't seen a Work order to replace a 211 with another 211 in well over a year and we have had none in our shop in almost as long

    Glare causing loss of signal

A switch (connected at receiver) may be needed for changing polarity if running single coax and an LNBF design that uses a voltage change between 13 & 18 to change from H to V polarity.

    Glare causing loss of signal

My dish is a 10 foot mesh it has a dark color and not too shiny I have a digital c/ku lnbf model BSC 621. I just bought a different lnbf but it doesn't have the three cable connections like the BSC 621. The add said something about needing a switch, but I don't know what kind of a switch I...

Can you use 18" actuator on a 10ft dish if you only need to access 0°W - 100°W?

Oops. My bad. I misread the photos. Save your bucks up. A decent actuator, some cable, and even an ancient 'cheat sheet' push button controller on the cheap from eBay would be a plus.

    Dish Letter for outdated equipment

Don’t count on updates. Or improved features. The Amish still use buggies, but it’s a bad choice for cross country.

How can equipment be "outdated" if it is still supported with no as-yet indication of stoppage of said support?

    How things have changed

My Sony's seem to recognize a lot of different STBs. I think it comes down to whether the STB advertises it and the TV is setup to display it.

    Smoking Meat?

About 12 hours in to an about 19 hour cook. 210. Lump, pecan and apple. Snaked it overnight. Currently 169 internally, coming out of the plateau. Trying an experiment. SWMBO insisted. It’s a Max Miller idea, modified. Coat in Lawrey’s and then a thin coat of molasses. After four hours...

How did USB take over the world?

I'm not sure what pre-1980s computers has to do with USB. Ribbon cables weren't much used in serial communications. By the way, the DB9 connector didn't become popular until somewhere into the PC compatible era (perhaps the IBM PC AT?). The DB25 was used instead for serial protocols like...

    Whats for breakfast?

Sausage, bacon, eggs over easy, buttermilk biscuits* cooked in the air fryer... OJ (1 EA except eggs) * 340° for 6 minutes, topped with a little butter at 6 minute mark, cooked 2 more minutes. I think the extra 2 minutes were not needed as they were already getting golden brown.

What's going on with Elevate by Orby / Orby TV?

It seems like the Orby TV forum is now closed. There was a bit of fanfare a year ago about "Elevate by Orby" launching. (Not sure if I can link to the press release) Since then there hasn't been a peep or a change to the websites. But somebody's paying to keep that TP live. Late last year a...

A more technical look at what a cell booster does

Several years ago, I put out a simple article called “What is a cell booster?” I’d seen a lot of diagrams like this one: and they did a pretty good job of showing the process, but I thought it also deserved a bit of an explanation in words. Google still understands words better than pictures...

How did USB take over the world?

It’s everywhere. It’s on your PC. You’ll find it on your phone (at least, on one side of the cable.) It’s even used as a connector to power things like antenna amplifiers. USB is, quite literally, everywhere. Why? How? So many things about USB seem like an abomination and yet, it’s impossible to...
