    LPB on 87W?

Been intermittent here in Central Florida past few weeks. Could not find anything this morning but now I'm getting L84 Q 64 on my Amiko Mini HD

Orby satellite TV antenna install. 38674 zipcode

I did not use the Orby dish so I'm not certain of the diameter it needs for the mast. A SCH40 steel pipe of the correct diameter would work but it's way over kill. Also be aware of plain steel vs galvanized, make sure you use galvanized unless you want to paint it. A thinner fence post...

    Just canceled Orby

I feel your pain bro. Have not watched ANY sports or news for a while here. Don't know if boycotting channels helps but it does make me feel better.

does orby have a satellite meter on it`s screen?

Did you find it ok? It's abt 3 levels down in the settings. Note - it's slow, might be best to use an external meter to rough in the dish then go to the built in meter to fine tune. Does not take much of an external meter - I used an old cheap squeal meter and it helped a lot.

    Scott goes Batty

I love to watch them fly from the backyard in the late evening just before it's too dark to see them. They might not be much to look at when sitting still but on the wing they own the night sky. A top dog fighter pilot has nothing on them!

Getting back on HF, new rig, FT8 interesting!

Here are a few pictures some might find interesting. BTW - I'm running Debian Linux (Buster), the instructions that came with the SignaLink USB did not cover Linux - only Winblows. It worked fine with Buster :-)

Getting back on HF, new rig, FT8 interesting!

Have not tried WSPR yet but plan to. Just got my interface setup and after some TX testing on a quite part of 40 meters (7070) I moved up to 7074 and gave FT-8 a try mostly to see if everything was working and sure enough made some contacts. Next I went to pskreporter.info and was stunned to...

Getting back on HF, new rig, FT8 interesting!

Good point on the locked TX! When I leave the house I turn off the rig. May leave the computer on but not the rig.

Getting back on HF, new rig, FT8 interesting!

Hi all, decided to get back on HF and picked up a nice basic ICOM IC-718. Not planing on putting up much of an antenna so weak signal is important. Some of the digital HF modes do very well on weak signal and one of the new modes that caught my eye was FT8. While I'm not sure I will use it for...

    Ham License

No doubt ham radio is changing as is just about everything in electronics. The components are getting so small many require special equipment and techniques to work with. There still is a lot to mess around with and learn. One of my recent projects that turned out to be a lot of fun and a great...

Tracking aircraft with dump1090 ADS-B Raspberry Pi

Line of sight reception? I think this one counts ;-) Was taken with a point and shoot under poor lighting. Want to try again with the DSLR, better lens and better lighting.

Tracking aircraft with dump1090 ADS-B Raspberry Pi

Just checked and found it's busy here too for a Sunday. Check out the top one on the close up screenshot. Could hear it indoors :) Not loud as it is running low throttle and noise abatement but still making wind, flaps and landing gear deployment sounds.

Tracking aircraft with dump1090 ADS-B Raspberry Pi

I'm just north of the VOR station at KORL. It marks the end of the 2500 foot minimum on the approach to KMCO so all the big planes are at 2700 > 2500 feet overhead when landing to the south. Don't need the binoculars for these ;-) The VOR is also used by aircraft in route to other locations...

Tracking aircraft with dump1090 ADS-B Raspberry Pi

It does now, took a while for me to figure out how to set my location. The Flightaware control page has what looks like an edit link but only works if it is clicked on. Does nothing on rollover so I missed it.

New antenna for 1090, Dump1090 running on Raspberry Pi Zero

Update - just checked my stats page 9-26-20 and see I had 4 positions reports from the 200 > 250 mile range. All due north. Maybe a better gap in the trees to the north? Perhaps another reason I don't get many that far out is there is a lot of activity at my location. Have seen up to 260 reports...

DMR, Pi-Star hotspot - lots to learn

I never really had much success hitting any of the local repeaters using a HT. That's part of what caught my interesting in setting up the hotspot. Would really like to be able to walk around the back yard with the HT and not have to be tied to the base running 20 watts or so just to use the...

DMR, Pi-Star hotspot - lots to learn

Here is what the control panel for the pi-star running on the Raspberry Pi zero looks like. Think I have it ready to go. Just waiting on my new DMR HT to come in.

    Best signal strength?

Looks like you have a solid lock. From what I have seen is the picture will drop right at the 50% margin so you have plenty to spare. BTW - I don't get a whole lot better running a 76CM fta dish. Below is the best I could get and I'm in Central Florida.

DMR, Pi-Star hotspot - lots to learn

Hi all, curious if anyone on the forum has been messing around with DMR and the Pi-star hotspot? One of my hobbies is I love messing around with the Raspberry Pi and when I recently learned that a DMR hotspot can be setup on the Pi zero using Pi-star software and an inexpensive MMDVM hat that...

    OTA Signal Fade at Dawn

Hi, might the affected channels be on high VHF? I only get one channel on high VHF and I find it does get wonky when there is any weather around. Might have something to do with Tropospheric ducting too. VHF and even UHF can be affected. If you want to learn more try some searched on VHF...

New antenna for 1090, Dump1090 running on Raspberry Pi Zero

That's excellent range. I'm not seeing that far, not sure if it's the dongle - no built in amp for 1090MHz or the tall oaks all around. Still getting more then enough as I'm directly under the ILS for KMCO. The other day during a hard rain storm I was still tracking the big boys coming in during...

    Dish Aiming

11800 H has the patient channel DVB-S and is easy to ID as it has unique programming. If you have DVB-S2 then LPB on 11811 H might be good too.

New antenna for 1090, Dump1090 running on Raspberry Pi Zero

It's the FlightAware collinear 26 inch for 1090 MHz. It's been working great. 6700 from 100 > 150 and 203 150 > 200 miles on my last stats check. BTW - I'm using a standard Nooelec mini 2+ (no built in amp for 1090) If you want to give it a go try the lite version of Raspberry OS (no window...

    Orby frustration please help!

Congrats! now the best part is it won't take a half hour next time to dial it in. Can be real nice if a bad storm breaks things, you will be able to get it going quickly and not have to wait weeks for a service person to fix it for you.

    Orby frustration please help!

Just wanted to follow up with what NYdutch posted. I went out and looked at the only whole dish skew dish that I have - an old dish 500 that has not be in use for a long time but I believe it is on 110 and 119W the picture below shows how much the skew offsets the direction. Maybe this will...
