PC or Mac? Android or iPhone?

PC: Switched to Ubuntu Linux about 6 years ago after Microsoft pushed Windows 10 on me and clobbered my working system. Never looked back; its a fantastic OS. Android: For personal use I have a 2012 Samsung Galaxy S3 running a custom, de-Googled ROM. Proofreading my post is has become apparent...

    phone/eathernet line connection

I had Dish installed a few days ago and one of the last things the installer told me was "if you make sure your receiver is connected to the phone line you will save $5 on your bill". By the way, one feature I really like is the on-screen caller ID.

Can I get 'C' Band with my set-up?

Hey Putney, Are you able to get anything off NSS 806 (40.5W) with your setup? I was thinking of putting together an 84e/C band non-motorized for this one sat.

How far East can we reach from the US?

I hear ya! Even within Brazil there are a *lot* of variations on Brazilian Portuguese depending on where you are. It made learning the language a real challenge.

Any one use a TV video transmitter (UHF or VHF) to help in dish tuning?

The last time I used a set of two way radios. My wife calling out Q's while I was on the roof adjusting the dish - not doing that again. :) I've since picked up a Bell+Howell mini LCD TV and a UHF TV transmitter off ebay. Total investment was about $50-$60. Since UHF/VHF TV signals are gone...

How far East can we reach from the US?

The only two Ku frequencies on this sat have a Brazilian coastline footprint. :( I think my next project will be to put together a fixed-position C band system just big enough to get this sat (and small enough that the "dish police" here can't see it from the street.

How far East can we reach from the US?

Thanks, yes, we saw this channel a few times but (strange as it may sound) we have a difficult time with European Portuguese. Theres enough of a difference in vocabulary that we can't pick out whats being said most of the time. Ironically, we understand Spanish better than European Portuguese. :)

How far East can we reach from the US?

Thanks Mike. Since I got Telstar 12 locked in we have been watching that TV Pampa channel quite a bit. At least now we can see the latest news and gossip going on in Brazil without having to drop upwards of $30/mo to get one channel (Rede Globo) from the pay services. I'm still on the hunt to...

How far East can we reach from the US?

Lyngsat has TV Pampa at 12173H but who knows when those lists were last updated. I have not done a channel scan yet but I will as soon as I finish goofing with trying to get the next Eastern sat. ;) Yes I speak Portuguese. My wife is from Brazil and so we travel back and forth a lot.

How far East can we reach from the US?

Its a really nice looking dish.. Does it have the same LNB/feedhorn setup as P* or does it have a DBS style LNBF? Reason I'm asking is because the next project will probably be fixed DBS pay system to replace our basic cable. Still have to look around and see what company has the best deals.

How far East can we reach from the US?

GOT IT!! Telstar 12 (15W) is locked in at a whopping 48%Q.. but its stable. I am completely shocked!!! Thought my neighbor's roof would block me before I would get it.. The dish is practically looking down at the roof. I'm going to see if I can squeeze another 2.5 degrees out of the motor and...

How far East can we reach from the US?

See now you're just making me jealous :D .... I see from your pics there is one extra TV Pampa channel (not Santa Maria) in the list as well.. I've got to try to get this sat! What kind of receiver is that by the way?

How far East can we reach from the US?

DXing is a very cool angle (pardon the pun) to the FTA hobby.. I'm finding out just how additctive it is. :)

How far East can we reach from the US?

That makes sense about the list ending at 58w... sounds like I might be able to mess around and get a little further East then (assuming how good my LOS is and what kinds of crazy contortions I can put my dish through ;)). By the way, what kind of dish is that with the support ribs in the...

How far East can we reach from the US?

Sorry for bombing the thread with so many replies :o BTW, I am trying to get Brazilian channels in Portuguese... A great lot of them are C band, many are only beamed to South America, and other Ku channels are 'crypted so that leaves a few left on Lyngsat that look like they are in the clear...

How far East can we reach from the US?

Here it is: http://www.satelliteguys.us/free-air-fta-discussion/71402-what-satellite-where.html#post614094 This is Iceberg's sticky about what sat is where.. follow the link at the bottom of Sat list in big bold letters.

How far East can we reach from the US?

Yes, Dishpointer is very cool to mess around with. Did you see the PDF file that Iceberg posted? Its a satellite map from Boeing of all the sats in orbit - very very interesting. Let me see if I can find that thread again.

How far East can we reach from the US?

Bummer! Thanks a lot for all the replies. I will most likely have a LOS issue and probably won't be able to reach as far East as some of you guys. My yard is quite tree-locked and so I had to go up on a mast on the roof to be able to get an uninterrupted section of the arc. I imagine the...

How far East can we reach from the US?

Ah, thanks guys.. so it looks like I'd be aiming my dish at my neighbor's house before getting anything further than about 20W.

How far East can we reach from the US?

I'm really trying to find a way to get some channels from Telstar 12 (15W) and Atlantic Bird 1 (12.5W) but I notice that most of our satellite lists seem to end at 58W at the Easternmost point. Is that because we have no line of sight to those sats from the US? Is 58W the farthest East...

    Cable FTA

Today your modem may be locked on at 579MHz but that could change anytime: The DOCSIS spec (which defines the cable modem line protocol) states that communication frequencies between the provider's Cable Modem Termination System (CMTS) and your cable modem is 1) Variable and 2) In the range of...

Pics of completed P* project - thanks for all the help!

Start with a piece of 2in PVC pipe, cut it to the length of the straight part of the motor tube then make two lengthwise cuts to remove about 1/2in from one side so its like a C. This is for relief of the PVC as its compressed around the motor tube and also to make your life easier with the...

    Cable FTA

You won't negativley impact your Internet signal with a splitter as long as you get one that handles higher frequencies. Internet comes over the coax on a higher frequency band than the modulated TV signal so if you get one of those low quality TV-only splitters it will act like a filter and...
