well, there ya go. And we now find ourselves free from this issue, to move about the others. Thanks guys sig

    DirecTV & Missing Transponders

sweet daddy kane. Hey ice, do you agree with jason's statement that my prob stems from using long RG59 cable instead of RG60 ? No offense, jason; just wanting a second opinion so I can put the thought to rest. I just can't get my mind around the fact I can receive 70 and 71 (HBOH & SHOH) on the...

    DirecTV & Missing Transponders

koo...guess he's SOLWAP, SBT, NTCSWGAS and whatever other acronyms there are haha OK, that problem solved, what about my other question? Can I run the amplified OTA antenna before I go into the multi? thanks J! sig

    DirecTV & Missing Transponders

...and now for the answer I don't want to hear. Did I mention the house is wired with RG59 :( *please refrain from lobbing any vegetables* Yes, I knew this might cause a problem. I was just hoping it wouldn't. I mean it is passing the HD channels so maybe the 59 is not the prob. Anyway, I...

    DirecTV & Missing Transponders

I forgot to add something hmmmm very interesting. My money's on a long cable (could also be a bad connection as one of the F connectors popped off while I was pulling on it). All the runs except one is extremely long; well within the limits however. I'm guessing maybe 75 to 100 feet? Not sure...

    DirecTV & Missing Transponders

Problems upon Problems: a follow-up hey guys, what's up. I bet you thought I forgot aboutcha, huh? ha Not as long as I've got frickin' problems. Otherwise, I'd be so outta here haha JK OK, I need everyone's help. My suspicions were half correct. I knew there was a combiner in the mix...

Splitting the OTA antenna signal to 2nd TV

thanks bridge! By the twin lead connector, do you mean the old 'u' shaped connectors that hooked onto the back of the TV? I know for certain there is RG59 running to the signal amplifier, so my guess is, and hopefully, the 75ohm Type F (coax, right?) is already in place. I'll rotate for signal...

Splitting the OTA antenna signal to 2nd TV

check! on the VHF/UHF info. Your assumption is correct. Diplexers already in place. OK, looks like we're all set. So...what do you want to do now. haha JK Actually, one last question. There already is a huge-ass antenna located in the attic. Is it safe to assume that it will pick up OTA HD...

Splitting the OTA antenna signal to 2nd TV

hey bridge, thanks for the reply. Well, I'm making a big assumption here thinknig that an HD antenna will also pull in Non-HD? in either case, signals will be ran from the antenna to an signal amplifier, then ran to a 5x4 multi which then shares DirecTV signals to the source where it's then...

    Splitting OTA signal?

yes, very groovy. You must be close to the towers or on the top of Gibraltor haha raze

Splitting the OTA antenna signal to 2nd TV

oh queso :) if my switcher says it will transmit up to 806MHz then I should conceivably be able to pass, and subsequently receive, all the HD OTA channels, correct? If this is correct, and I in turn distribute this signal (amplified of course) throughout the house, would I degradate the sig...

Splitting the OTA antenna signal to 2nd TV

This is kinda off topic but this topic satisfied a question I have, so I thought i'd post here instead of cluttering up the forum with another redundant question. It was mentioned here that a splitter need only pass a 5-900 mhz signal to handle OTA HDTV (right?). With that said, I recently...

    DirecTV & Missing Transponders

mightypeon, if you got it at BB then you're most likely running the P3 (phase). I haven't researched 'cascading' but it sounds like it's a solution to running many multis at once? keep us/me posted as I'm trying to get out of this all i can. And it does look like that multi would work...

    DirecTV & Missing Transponders

i'm curious whether you're running a triple LNB now, and if so do you know if it has a built-in multi? Ice, help me out here if i'm wrong, but wouldn't the absence/presence of an existing multi cause the 2x4 solution he's proposing not to work? It seems like this would trip up the multi for some...

    DirecTV & Missing Transponders

yeah, that's a nice 'un ;) I actually found one I'm watching for about $40 less (that is until all the vultures swoop in four days from now haha) however, the aspen eagle 5/4 multi is nice (albeit with fewer outputs), does work with P3 and was only $25, so I'll get that in a couple of days...

    DirecTV & Missing Transponders

hey jason, thanks. I did find the 5x8 @ best buy, however, the Dynex I found says it's not compatible with triple lnbs. also, it's $149! ouch. If it does work with a TLNB please let me know; otherwise, i'll pick up the eagle on the bay for something a helluvalot more reasonable. thanks! raze

    DirecTV & Missing Transponders

ice, i'm looking at an aspen eagle 5x4 S-4140-GX. Will this work ok? The reason i'm asking is on the sat input side i see the 4 inputs, each side marked sat A and sat B, respectively; however, i see no sat C (not sure if that matters). I think this will work ok, just want to make sure...

    DirecTV & Missing Transponders

so if i go with a 5x8, say, and i'm only going to run 4 receivers, that would be cool, right? Also, can anyone recommend a good 5-by-at-least-4 that's inexpensive AND accessible, like, today!? haha raze

    DirecTV & Missing Transponders

ok, got it. Here's the problem with the 'easiest' solution you guys proposed - he's combining both Sat and Ant into the multiswitcher. Once at the source, diplexers are used. If I remove the multi, and run directly to the receivers, I then lose the ability to transmit OTA. Should I get a 5x8...

    DirecTV & Missing Transponders

out of curiosity, would it even work if i ran only one line from the LNB to the switcher, which I then would run four receivers?

    DirecTV & Missing Transponders

ok guys, here's the latest. Poked around my owner's attic tonight just to get an idea of what to expect and found a very strange setup. As far as I can tell it's like this: Four lines coming from what was 2 separate dual lnb dishes, but is now 4 lines from one triple lnb (the new dish I...

    DirecTV & Missing Transponders

yeah, my guess is - judging from the shoddy install - there's a splitter in the mix somewhere, so that's what i'm thinking, too, cougar, that this is what's causing some of the missing transponders. Let's just hope it's this simple. My god, never fails you're trying to look good in front of...

    DirecTV & Missing Transponders

hey ice, thanks. So i basically add this somewhere between the dish's lnbs and the receiver(s), correct? Koo. Now...if i get up in the attic to find there already is a multiswitch there, would I then just be able to pull off the multi and instead use couplers on the lines going to each receiver...
