    Recordings to external hard drives?

Jeez, can't a guy take a couple of days off? What can I say? I was absolutely, completely, totally wrong. I misunderstood what an EHD is. I apologize to everyone and ask for your forgiveness and understanding. Perhaps this capability will be available down the road. I am sure that everybody will...

    Recordings to external hard drives?

722 (my claim only extends to the 722, which is the receiver mentioned in the OP - I have no idea about any others) and 6.14, I think - whatever was current about a week ago....and nothing wrong with explicitly caveating comments. I just mentally insert them as a service to others.;)

    Recordings to external hard drives?

How so? The new card is NOT required for EA programming. That is to say that people without the card have EA programming. Perhaps I am misunderstanding you?

    Locals question

You can get what you want but probably not in the way you want to. You are somewhat fortunate in that Denver is one of the decreasing number of local markets carried CONUS, otherwise for RV purposes you would have San Francisco and Atlanta via NPS. Since you are simply receiving your normal Big...

    Recordings to external hard drives?

Waxing Philosophically When folks make statements like: You need a new smart card to get EA programming. You cannot record directly to an EHD. [insert your own favorite statement of absolutivity]:( I interpret them as meaning "As far as I know,......" Using adverbs like always, never...

    Recordings to external hard drives?

(If you cannot see the post, change your font color.) Sure, please forgive formatting errors. This assumes that the EHD installed, formatted, connected and otherwise ready to go. Let’s say my program of choice is “The Best of Lawrence Welk” PART I - RECORDING I go to a guide that contains...

    DISH Renovates Website

This is just not being loose with the language. It is consumer fraud (Mabel, there ain't no hi defynshun shows on KORN-TV!). I noticed that even the veterans here perpetuate this misleading usage. They ought to be ashamed. I guess Dish likes the trips to court. Call it something different, like...

My neighbor got that. He had an invalid combination of selections. A warning message would have been more useful. Try changing one thing at a time (if it doesn't increase your cost).

I dunno. There are some things you don't want to see in detail.

    Recordings to external hard drives?

You can get programs to the EHD in one step, I have done it. I don't know the technical jazz but apparently the programs are recorded to the internal storage (in my case it appears as TV2/ehd) and then automatically get transferred to the EHD. I say apparently because knowledgeable people have...

    1000.4 vs 61.5 dish 500 and 19/110 dish 500

Consider that one day Dish will say we have EA (1000.4) and we have WA (1000.2) single dish solutions. Choose one or the other (if they give you the choice). No more mix and match. They may permit multi-dish solutions equivalent to the 1000's but do you want to deal with that? Is the 1000.2...

    RF remote question

Could you explain this further? If a TV is locked then does that mean that nothing can be displayed? If for instance you have "TV1" on channel 33 and "TV2" on channel 35 how does that work with security? If "TV1" isn't referring to receiver 1 then it doesn't make sense since you can direct a...

    Installation advice needed

Post-receiver just means the signal as it exists coming out of the receiver. Whether it's from Tuner1 or Tuner2. I always use RG-6, Quad Shielded, Peppermint Flavored, Lemon Scented cable myself. My only point is that it is not required to the TV (because you are dealing with low UHF...

    Another "install" frustartion thread.

Only if the installer checks his onions at the door. Another reason for DIY. You don't need FCC enforcement if you are within the rules. If you (or I) install system in compliance with OTARD and maintenance takes it down, we have at least trespass and theft, maybe conspiracy to commit as well...

    Another "install" frustartion thread.

But the apartment and exclusive use areas are the tenant's property for purposes of OTARD. Perhaps you mean if the install would have to be done outside those areas but you wouldn't know that until you get to the apartment.

Do you mean that even if the rules are invalid you use them to stop the install?

    Help With the Jargon

I have been reading a lot of posts to try and get an understanding of the technology employed in Dishnetwork. This is a summary of what I think is correct. Please tell me if I am off base but do so nicely. I am very fragile psychologically. 1. MPEG-2 and MPEG-4 are digital compression...

    Local Channel Question

I think you mean that analog signals are MPEG-2 compressed and digital signals (which carry SD and HD programming) are MPEG-4 compressed. I'm not sure that is correct. If so, only people with MPEG-4 capable receivers would be able to get digital locals. Can't people with non-MPEG-4 receivers get...

    Installation advice needed

Interior cabling (post-receiver) does not have to be RG-6. It is a good idea to install quality cable but your distribution system should work with RG-59 unless you have extremely long or harsh environment runs.

Eastern Arc Install Gone Sour (Smart Card?)

I've had mine about six weeks (?) I don't see why the smart card issue can't be individually addressed. After all, that is how they authorize programming (isn't it?) In other words if my receiver ID is J123245 (I know that's not the real format) and yours is J12346, why can't the people at Moon...

Eastern Arc Dish Info & Install Guide

You have a 1000.2 but may be able to have a 1000.4 if you swap the heads out. I don't think the reflector is different but I am not sure. The satellites you are receiving tell all. If you substitute a single LNBF on the 500 it may work. I don't think the standard two-headed would work (at least...

    Another "install" frustartion thread.

Another Route DIY. If a technically-challenged, mechanically clumsy doofus like me can set up a 1K.4, anybody can. As far as the apartment challege is concerned - with Eastern and Western options, you would have to be in Sherwood Forest to be totally blocked out. Are you wearing green tights...
