Kevinw is right, but to be sure go to the Menu, 6-1-1 for point dish and select check switch. It show you a listing of what you're pointing at.

Black bars on top and bottom

The two 4:3 settings are for 4:3 sets that do High Definition and are connected to the DVI or component outs. They don't apply in your case.

Black bars on top and bottom

You should be able to fix this by using the "page down" button on your remote to zoom in on the center of the picture. This happens when local stations take their standard definition 4x3 picture and upconvert it to high definition. All high def is 16x9, so side bars are added to the 4x3...

HI ALL!. New here and new to DISH after having VOOM!!!

If you were getting your locals OK with Voom, your existing antenna is fine. Go ahead and use the Voom OTA antenna with your Dish receiver. There's no need to buy another one. Which Dish receiver do you have?

    61.5 Transponder 1

There is a known issue with some 811's not getting some Voom channels. Is was noted over at DBSTalk. http://www.dbstalk.com/showthread.php?t=41426

Post your VOOM Activation Stories here

I called at about 7 AM Central Time to 800-333-DISH. On my first attempt, I got a message stating that my hold time would be six minutes but I almost immediately got a CSR with an Indian accent. They told me that they had seen a memo that customers may be calling about Voom, but that the...

    Voom Channels are on Dish!

It took me two calls to get Voom added as well. It seems the overseas call center doesn't know how to add the Voom channels. My second call went to an English speaking person and she added the channels in about a minute.

All 10 VOOM Channels on Echostar will be on 61.5!

Sorry, but no. Most of the Dish Network HD is on the sat at 110. Check the channel chart at http://ekb.dbstalk.com/dishlist.htm . The HD channels are 9420 and up. There isn't a whole lot at 61.5.

New install: RG6/U or RG6/U Quad shielded? 110ft run

If you are burying it, you shouldn't need the quad shielded cable. The extra shielding is to help keep out interference. Burying does the same thing. Do yourself a favor and don't directly bury the cable (especially if it is not 'direct burial' cable). For minimal cost and a lot of work saved...

    CSR's can't speak English??

Here's an article that came out earlier this month about Dish Network call centers. The article claims that Charlie tries to keep his call centers in the US.... http://www.nwfusion.com/newsletters/asp/2005/0404out1.html

    Widescreen UI?

Currently, no. I have seen this as a Feature Request for the 811 over at DBSTalk. My opinion is that this isn't likely to happen because they use the same on-screen overlay for both the 16x9 HD and 4x3 SD outputs since both are active at all times. Any 16x9 menu data would have the sides cut...

Where did you get your 942?

I started calling retailers in my area as listed on the Dish web site. I actually found a local retailer who had one. He said he got a single unit in about a week ago and it was the only unit in the area. He was surprised I was anxious to purchase one.

The 811 has DVI - it does not have an RF out.

    811 Question

This happens when the local station upconverts their standard def 4x3 signal to high def. High Def is always 16x9, so when the 4x3 SD is upconverted to HD, the black side bars are added to fill the 16x9 picture area. When the 811 downconverts the picture, it letterboxes it like any other 16x9...

Sales Tax on DISH Network Satellite Programming in your state

For South Dakota: State Sales Tax rate is 4%. Local sales tax rates vary, mine is 2%. Before Oct 2004 business customers were charged local tax in addition to state tax. After October 2004 all customers are exempt from local tax. So the rate should be 4% for all customers No seperate...

Papersun6, What output on the 811 are you connecting to your Sony HDTV? Component or DVI?

    Can I connect ONLY 61.5?

Should work just fine with only a dish at 61.5. You should probably run a check switch when you change over so your 811 knows what it's looking at. Run it again when you switch back.

    The 942 is HERE!

Scott, Is this true? I took another look at the 942 product flyer on the DISH site, and I see they call the port a "HDTV digital audio/video output" compatible with HDMI equipped televisions. I'm hoping that the port does supply audio and that this is maybe just an issue about not wanting to...

oh where, oh where is the 942?

I was checking the DVR page on the Dish Network site this afternoon for any 942 news. (Like I thought I would find any.) http://www.dishnetwork.com/content/...dvr/index.shtml I noticed the pricing info for the 942 has changed. It now says "Standalone - $699 - For New Customers Only". Previously...

No 720p support on TV... so now what?

Dish HD receivers allow you to pick a fixed resolution, 1080i, 720p, or 480p and will then convert all programming to that resloution. In your case, set the receiver for 1080i and the 720p FOX and ABC programming you are concerned about will be scaled to 1080i for display on your set. This won't...

    DishPlayer 942 is (NOT) out!

I sent an e-mail to ceo@dishnetwork.com this afternoon trying to get on pre-order for a 942 to replace an old receiver that recently failed. I got a phone call back in 20 minutes and the person who called said she had heard discussion in the office that the 942 was delayed until "mid April", but...

    Antenna and Preamp problems.

Make sure you have DC power on the coax cable feeding the preamp. Use a voltmeter to see if you actually have power at the amp. (Check the output of the power inserter, too.) Also make sure you are using the Wineguard power inserter and not the Radio Shack one (the voltages are different.) The...
