American Horror Story (FX) poor visual quality

I watch AHS off my DVR and it really looks godawful. The dark areas are so noisy and macro-blocked I can barely watch it. Apparently this is not true for everyone on Dish Network, and other shows, even other FX shows, look great, so it doesn't seem to be something about my particular system...

Dish (and satellite in general) compression questions

Hi Folks, I have a very specific image quality question I'll be asking in another post, but I realized I am pretty ignorant about how Dish Network transmission works and I'm hoping some kind soul will provide me an explanatory link or help me understand the following questions. This will help...

    Audio Dropout Problem (722, 722K)

Me too We have these half second audio dropouts when watching recorded material on our 722 all the time. I didn't know about this thread so I started one a few days ago to see if anyone else noticed it.

    722 DVR audio dropouts?

I have noticed frequent audio dropouts that last about a half second in DVR recorded materials on my 722. My wild guess is that this happens when a video file is fragmented each time the drive head has to seek to the next segment of data. Anyone else seen this? If my guess is right is there a...

    Sling: Home vs. Travelling

Just ordered the 722 sling adaptor and Im wondering something kind of basic. If I'm watching on a laptop at home will the system recognize that and use my in-home bandwidth or will the data be sent out to Dish or my ISP and back somehow limiting it to my ISP bandwidth? If the system won't use...

Watching DVR from 722 on laptop requires sling?

Is it true I have to order the sling adapter to watch shows recorded on my 722 DVR? Thanks!

    722K Start-Finish timed recordings?

Ok, I just went to Dish Remote Access (very cool) but I didn't see how to create a timer starting at some arbitrary time and ending at some arbitrary time. ie July 20th from 1:40 to 3:20

    722K Start-Finish timed recordings?

Oh wow, I just upgraded to the 722k and didn't even realize there was a web interface. Excellent! Now if it could only realize that not every episode of the Daily Show is new so I don't have to make individual events for them...

    722K Start-Finish timed recordings?

It's so funny, I can't even remember what that it's like to watch linearly. I got this swanky Harmony One remote and you can program in favorite channels with fancy custom icons. At first I was like "awesome! I'll program in all the channels I watch!" Then I realized I almost never watch...

    722K Start-Finish timed recordings?

Is there a way to set a recording based on arbitrary start and finish times rather than a guide event?

    What could possibly go wrong?

Okay, I ordered the SD to HD upgrade. What do I need to watch out for when the installer comes? My worry is that my location won't be able to see all the sats necessary for all the HD channels. Is it all or nothing or is there a sort of half-assed half the HD channels install?

    922 and Google TV

I just listened to the Charlie Chat excerpt. He seems a little ambiguous about how the GTV box interacts with the 922. He implies you plug it into the 922 (or other HD receiver). Is that right?

    922 and Google TV

I'm looking at doing a SD to 922 upgrade. Is there any indication about whether the 922 will be the platform for the announced Dish+Google TV deal or does it seem like something completely different that will make me cry when I'm locked into a 24 month contract?

    622 vs 722 vs 922?

Hi Folks: Looks like I'll be upgrading to Dish HD. I have a couple of questions about the current HD DVRs. I can't get over the air programming, so that's not an issue. Right now I have one DVR and one non-DVR box for the two TVs in my house, which works fine. I do like snazzy new...

    Comcast HD vs. Dish HD?

Hi everyone, thanks for the info. (I'm the original poster.) It turns out that asking Comcast to add TV to my (home-based) business internet and phone account makes their brains melt. After being ping-ponged between their home and business offices an amount of times that started out as funny...

    Comcast HD vs. Dish HD?

Okay I finally bought an HD receiver and TV. Now I have the choice of upgrading my currently month-to-month Dish Network to HD or getting Comcast HD which just came to our neighborhood 6 month ago. I currently have Comcast internet & phone. Is there a big difference in quality? I know the...

    New Equip for High Def?

Yes I'm pretty annoyed at the chaotic state of HD right now, but I think I'm ready for the switch. Do I contact the installer or does dish? I want to have him come out and make sure I can actually see the birds before I get the process started.

    New Equip for High Def?

Thanks for all the info! Can I be pretty confident that if I can see the SD satellites I'll also be able to see the HD ones? Do they also find the local installer?

    New Equip for High Def?

I'm going to jump to hi def next year, probably after the 922 is released. Will I need to get a new dish antenna? The one I have is "Dish 500" compatible and I also used it for satellite internet for a while. Also, will I need to schedule an installer or is it just a matter of swapping in a...

    Infrequently used receiver problems

I have a receiver in the guest room (an old 300 series - no dvr) and it only gets used every few months. Almost every single time I'm about to have guests and I go back to check on it I get the "Congratulations you have Dish 500!" channel and the receiver will only tune to the free channels...
