    What is DIRECTV's new GENIE?

So if I was into logic, I might think there's a relationship between what the other site doesn't do and does, versus what we do and don't do. -- -It's been stated here repeatedly that the other site has to wait to post about things until DIRECTV approves it. --- It's a fact that the other site...

    HR34 release date

I'm amused and amazed at the myopia... DBSTalk deletes posts, but so does this site. The posts that are deleted? They're the same at both sites: they're the ones that contain personal attacks against members of the respective forums. Except for one exception, I've never seen posts removed here...

    Special One-Night CE for 9/15 -- No Weekend CE's

For those who are complaining that someone pointed out the quality of an image ... well guess what? The person pointing it out is doing his job as a CE tester. He's using the software and reporting his observations. It's up to DIRECTV to decide what to do with the reports. Maybe DIRECTV...

D* news from the other fourm

Am I the only one upset that after the HD GUI is rolled out the guide will still only display a maximum of 1.5 hours???? What a missed opportunity for those with large screens...

Why no AMC HD? (Now Live Sept 9th)

Please stop hiding behind a keyboard calling people trolls. If you disagree with a post and have an argument or facts to dispute a claim made by someone else, then make it. Otherwise you just sound like a bully with no other defense than to call someone a name... Regarding "niche", substitute...

Thanks for the clarification. I definitely misread the date.

Why no AMC HD? (Now Live Sept 9th)

Did DIRECTV delay rolling out AMC in HD? I thought Engadget and this site said it would be available today, but I've not seen it in my guide and no one's commented one way or the other ...

    CE's for Labor Day Weekend

Scott was correctly stating that new features in test software will essentially be public knowledge due to the open nature of the testing. In his reply he commented on the rule at DBSTalk about limiting disclosure of CE information, so I picked up on that stating that I agree with the rule...

    CE's for Labor Day Weekend

I know there's some sensitivity here when it comes to talking about DBSTalk, but to be honest, the rules they have that CE should be limited to the CE forums make perfect sense to me. Consider what Engadget did today: they said in their article that if you are in the test group, restart and hit...

    CE's for Labor Day Weekend

Thanks Matt! We currently get to the To Do List through "Manage Recordings", so if the new "Recordings" option brings up the playlist is there a new way to get to the To Do List? As I said before I highly doubt that they went through all the trouble of redesigning the GUI just to leave the...

    CE's for Labor Day Weekend

Yeah! HD Goodness! Can someone post a picture showing the Progress Bar in play and pause modes - I'm curious how that changed. I'm hoping it's not as chunky as the SD one. Also, can someone show us pictures of the sub-menus: My Directv, Recordings, and Extras? Any changes to TV Apps? Thanks!

    New DIRECTIVO coming next month?

I could not care less about TiVo. (An important distinction, it means that right now I care NOTHING for TiVo, so there's no way I could ever think less of it!)

    max number of TVs 6?

Today I don't think 6 or 8 receivers is really an unreasonable number... Consider the modern home is so connected that there could be TVs in almost every room, so I could easily see a 4 bedroom house having DIRECTV receivers in the following rooms: 1 - Great Room / Family Room / Living Room 2...

    Anyone Else Seem to Notice

More like 1 out of 6. :p I don't bother with Standby because I like being able to turn on the AV system and immediately having the channel displayed. I just don't like the delay waiting for the box to output video and audio...

Correct - I never put them into standby.

    Anyone Else Seem to Notice

My DVRs are never in standby and all of them have experienced the delays in changing channels, so if DIRECTV identified "standby" as the root cause I hope they continue to investigate... I'm still seeing longer than normal delays changing channels, even after restarting on my own and even after...

    Anyone Else Seem to Notice

Just a reminder: if you restart your DVR twice within a short time span your guide cache will be cleared and will need to be rebuilt. This doesn't pose a problem, but don't be alarmed if you immediately go to the guide after the second restart and don't see program titles beyond the next day or...

    Yet another feature wish thread

I feel your pain, because it can be frustrating to lose the buffer. I've done that myself, but there's always a safeguard of hitting RECORD if you know you're going to be away for awhile. I've used several DVRs and have never seen this "interlock" feature, but if DIRECTV adds it, I sure hope...

    DirecTiVo Delayed Again?

As someone who's had the HDVR2 (SD-DIRECTV TiVo) and the HR10-250 (HD-DIRECTV TiVo) for many years, and now has many HR2x receivers, I will just add my 2¢ about the delayed MPEG4 HD DIRECTV TiVo ... I have no plans to lose sleep waiting for it! Not only do I currently have the HR2x receivers...

    DirecTiVo Delayed Again?

You can get a version of the TiVo List Guide in the DIRECTV receivers to see what's coming up next as follows: GUIDE* > LEFT > INFO. This moves the highlight left into the channel number column and INFO then brings up a list of the shows coming up next on that channel. To jump to the next...

    Most wanted HD Channels Survey

The interesting thins missed in this thread is that DBSTalk's poll is saying the channel options are copied from an ACTUAL poll that DIRECTV sent to select customers. That's why they didn't include AMC in the poll. So... it begs the question, why did DIRECTV leave "AMC" out of their own...

Did DirecTV update their DVRs to not use SSD drives?

The OP has an HR21, so there could be some other difference between his older model and your HR22 that is the cause of the low temp reading when a SSD is used.

Any plans to redo the GUI?

DIRECTV mentioned in the December 2010 Investor Day presentation that they will be introducing a "high definition user interface". Of course no timetable was given. I probably interact with the guide and playlist the most and while they certainly are adequate, I would love to see some new...

    NBC On Demand

Another forum had this as a news item on their home page, and indicated that NBC On Demand can be found on channel 1004. This brings up a menu of NBC shows and you can choose which ones to watch at any time. As others said, the shows as of today are not available in HD, and you can't fast...
