    Comcast Internet without Cable?

Here we have Comcast's "Everyday Double Play" - basic phone service (very clear but costs $$$ if you call long distance just like POTS does) and 1.5 mbps down / 0.3 mbps up (and it's very stable - almost no outages) for ~$55/mo Not a bad deal :) If you get the Internet without the phone you...

Your smart card does not currenly have authorization to view or order this program.

erm...no. a transponder is a device that beams a signal back to earth from the sat in orbit. a server is on the ground feeding data to the sat in orbit. much easier to fix/replace a server than a transponder

Your smart card does not currenly have authorization to view or order this program.

I noticed this ~6 hours ago this morning on my 311 For me only the channels coming off 110 west were having the authorization error - all the stuff on 119 was fine (i would've checked further but i had to go to work). System is 100% fine for me now though ;)

    Echostar 2

echostar 2 died summer 2008 - leaving echostar 1 a widow at 148. echostar 5 will be going to 148 soon so echostar 1 isn't lonely (one is old and the other is weak :)

Need Dish advice in South Texas

1000.2 is very hard to aim (and I found the suggested skew angles aren't quite right). The 1000.2 is one of those dishes where adjusting the skew down a little on the 129 side can improve things a lot (i spent 3 days fine tuning mine and i used an expensive sat meter). 129 on the 1000.2 is very...

lost signal on 2 out of 3 sats

Okay, here's what you do: go out to your 110/119 dish and adjust it from left to right (it's most likely not an elevation or skew issue, so adjust it left and right until you find the satellites). Do NOT run a check switch - that may cause you to need to rewire your system and will make...

DTV to test radio audio channels and to discontinue TV analog by law in Feb. 17, 2009

The reason HD Radio has issues with it's signal is the FCC only allows radio stations to transmit at 1% power for their HD Radio signal - anything higher would cause interference to the analog signal. The FCC is currently looking at allowing them to operate at 10% digital radio power increase...

Poll, Do you have your NEW smartcards yet? (Dec poll)

I got my 2 cards the first week of December - I find it odd that I'd get my cards earlier than most since all I sub to is the family pack with locals - I guess the longer you've been a customer, the sooner you get them (been w/ E* since 1999-ish) Does anyone have any idea how E* is sending out...

    Second homes

I just had a thought - if you send the signal from your receiver to another house over wireless and use one of those IR remote senders (both cost about $100 with 120ft range) would that count as having service at a second location even if you don't actually have the receiver at the second...

Dish adds twice as loud as the programing, annoying?

To each his own then - I'd like the whispers just as loud as the screams (I like my whispers loud - you can tell it's a whisper), and the dark scenes should not be so dark they disappear and I have to squint or move closer to the tv (you can have bright dark scenes) - after all, I'm lazy and...

    Ciel 2 Tracking

Perhaps you should investigate a bit more - tune to channel 240 and you'll see the big five offered. And that's before you count the superstations (CW,MyNet) on channels 232-238 (KTLA,WPIX,etc). I highly doubt there will ever be any distant networks available in high def anytime soon.:( I was...

Dish adds twice as loud as the programing, annoying?

My proposal for new audio/video transmission standards: 1) The average audio volume should be consistent at all times, in order to avoid being "blasted" during programming changes. 2) All channels broadcast in any real-time live medium must use the same average volume levels so as to eliminate...

how does the "2 receivers at both places at the same time is a no-no" rule apply if you have two houses right next to each other and they and the land are both owned by you? Just wondering as this is what I've been doing for a few years now - even ran a phone line over to the 2nd house along...

    DTVPal/TR-40 Remote Address Conflicts

a wet rag will take care of the sticky. It goes on the tip anyway - your hand doesn't go there :) BTW, if cardboard doesn't work try rolling a few sheets of paper around the front instead - right now I'm using a sizable piece of junkmail - it's good for something

December 18th Dish Retailer Chat Recap

Dish has been using the Americas Top designation since last century - I recall clearly when I first signed up I had Americas Top 40 for 19.99 a month - those were the good ol' days:cool: Usually Dish just changes the number after the AT branding - AT40 became AT60, which became AT100 I suspect...

    DTVPal/TR-40 Remote Address Conflicts

Or you could just do what I do - put some tape over one of the two diodes on the DTVPal remote to reduce it's effect/strength, and stick a piece of cardboard very carefully in front of the sat box's remote sensor. This allows you use the sat remote for both, but the DTVPal remote won't get to...

    150 CHANNELS BY YEAR END?

Dish failed to make 150 because of the failure of the AMC-14 launch. DISH Network's AMC-14 satellite fails to reach orbit - Engadget HD dish hd plan setback failed launch AMC-14 - Google Search I guess Charlie didn't think this setback would prevent him from making 150 - hindsight is always...

    English Subtitles for Foreign Channels

as far as I know, DN does not add subtitles to the video stream they get from the tv stations providing the signal. So to answer your question it depends on the station transmitting the signal - if they add in subtitles, you'll see them. Dish does not add subtitles (it would cost a fortune to...

turning legacy lnb's into dp lnb's

I mean FTA installation equipment (non-reciever's) - a DisEqC switch is much cheaper than a legacy DN switch, or for that matter a DP switch (which as far as I know is exactly like a DisEqC switch) Besides, linear FTA lnb's are just like legacy DN lnb's as far as I know (as far as the switch is...
