    Telstar 5/ IA5

I was having as hell of a time finding IAS5, and then I discovered I didn't have the correct down frequency. As soon as I changed it from 20.000 MHz to 22.000MHz, there it was. So doublecheck your frequencies!

    Last VOOM Statement

I got the bill too, it listed a "customer loyalty" credit of $399! Less my final bill (which I didn't pay  ) I have a final credit of $361. Will I be getting a check soon? :D

    What about us Charter Members!

The best price I saw for an HDTV OTA receiver a couple months ago was $250. So yeah, I shelled out about $500 for the Voom receiver & dish, but I've got no regrets cause I did have Voom for over a year and I don't need to spend any extra money to watch OTA HDTV.

Anyone Receiving Voom On The West Coast??

Yup, that's what I had to do. He had the activation CSR on the phone, then I talked to her ("Chantelle" with an Indian accent) and she asked me if I paid the $100 for the extra dish. I said I have a dish pointed at 61.5 ;) and would she please add the Voom channels to my account. She put me...

Anyone Receiving Voom On The West Coast??

My install is going on right now. The guy has pointed the 148 dish at 61.5 as I requested (wink, wink) but I think I have to call Dish to "turn on" the Voom channels. The guy said the Voom dish won't work cause of the switching. I'm guessing that means the 148/61.5 dish has a diseqc in it as...

    VoomHD+free install=$100?!?!?!

On the phone with E* right now; they tell me the free extra dish at 148 for the locals (SoCal) can't be pointed at 61.5 cause it's "required by law". But when I was originally signing up, the guy asked me if I wanted the extra dish. But I did get switched to the 3 months @ $20 deal. I'll ask...

Isn't that for east coast, and west coast needs a 148 dish?

All 10 VOOM Channels on Echostar will be on 61.5!

I just signed up with E* this morning and the install guy didn't know anything about the Voom programming. He did say if I wanted a couple of minor local channels here in the LA area I'd need a second free dish, I said go ahead and install it. Sounds like the second dish is for 148W. I'm...

Cuban and Voom -- Why Cuban is happy to see Voom go bye-bye?

At least he's being honest. He wants to be a monopoly and competition from Voom was a threat. Far more disturbing is what he says below, about supporting the auctioning off of the analog spectrum. It'll lead to the "Clear Channel"ling of OTA television, lack of competition, and in general...

    Sears made it's choice

Probably get E* so I can still have HD. Won't have to pay anything upfront and it's just a year contract.

    Sears made it's choice

The Sears I ordered Voom from (Westminster, CA) had a working Voom setup at the time, but they were only feeding one TV, although it was their biggest one. They weren't particularly knowledgable, but they did know how to sell it & set up the installation appointment.

    Screwed By VOOM

I went through the DishPro ad here in the Voom forums (fora?) and I chatted with someone (Claude). I asked about getting two rooms of HDTV and was told $50 activation, $50 credit on first bill, 1 year contract, and 6 months free HD package. Price for Top 60 Plus would be $52/month. So...

Am I getting the BEST deal I can from Comcast???

I just called ComCa$t, they want $62.95 per month for "Digital Plus" with HD. No discount for having a cable modem either. So here in north Orange county, Comcast is definately not worth it.

Voom Box is DEAD and no OTA

I think on the 29th I'm going up on the roof to point the dish away from 61 degrees. Then the box will get no signal and think it's merely an alignment problem. And hopefully that'll be that!

    Got an interesting phone call...

You might not get a call if you're on the do-not-call list. Since D* & E* don't have an existing business relationship with me, I'm pretty sure I won't get a phone call from either.

I've just received this email from Voom...

Mine's due April 27, so if the website still says they're shutting down, I'll mail my bill with a printout from the website. No reason to throw good money after bad.

    Is the Voom receiver proprietary??

OK, so we need someone to hack together a "good to go" signal so we can continue to use the OTA receiver part. :)

What about the OTA part? If the service does shut down at the end of the month, will the receiver still pick up my local digital & HD TV? /please say yes, please say yes

Sat audio in the car. 18" dish.

A friend of mine went boating with a guy in Arizona once, and on his boat he had a DirecTV satellite dish. When the boat was anchored, he'd punch a button and the dish would automagically spin around and lock in on the satellite. He said you could hear the motor making adjustments with the...

Will my dish have to move?

My aforementioned Primestar dish is 30". It is attached to a 4'X4' piece of plywood in one corner with two support rods for stabilization. (I didn't attach it directly to my roof, getting permission from the HOA is a PITA) I worried about that too, but we had some pretty strong Santa Ana...

Why is 61.5 so picky as to dish setup?

I set up my old Primestar dish to pick up IAS 5 at 97 degrees, and while it was touchy, I had it locked down with a good signal in about 5 minutes. Called the wife with our cellphones; she was my meter. :) A friend of mine at work warned me it's a weak signal and hard to find, but it was...
