    Tyler-Longview, TX DTV update

KFXK-DT - as of 8/30, have added My Network TV affiliate KLPN on 51.2, although I cannot currently get any sound on it. 51.1 is still in 480i, but HD equipment is apparently on it's way, so should have Fox 720p soon. KETK-DT - as of 8/31, testing 1080i on 56.1, so NBC-HD should be up within days.

Torn a bit on Which Antenna to Buy, advice please!

I forgot to add that KLTV-DT has chosen to return to channel 7 once analog goes dark, but that is at least 3 years out and a lot can change between now and then. Good idea about a VHF only for channel 7. You can get an inexpensive VHF or even a V/U antenna at Radio Shack, add a V/U coupler...

Torn a bit on Which Antenna to Buy, advice please!

I use the 4228 to receive KLTV-DT at 28 miles. It works just fine. It is also bi-directional at VHF frequencies, so there is about as much gain out the back as the front. Have never tried it on analog channel 7. Adam61, is there any reason why you want to receive BOTH analog and digital...

    CM 4228 Mounted Sideways?

Just an example of polarization at work, try connecting a standard tv antenna to a police scanner. You won't get much. Rotate the main axis of the antenna by 90° so that the elements point up and down, and it works magnificently. Television signals are horizontally polarized. VHF and UHF...

What's up with Fox showing 16:9 programming in 4:3?

This is NOT a TV issue. I thought that I was seeing things, but it indeed happened during That 70's Show last night. There was a horizontal bar on top and bottom that went from one side to the other. The vertical bars on each side went from the top of the bottom bar, to the bottom of the top...

What is the difference between Ka and Ku?

I didn't mean to imply that a captured German radio scientist had named the band, but a generic German scientist. However, if the K-band was named prior to the end of the war, that theory goes out the window. The names for the bands are all relative anyway. What does short band mean? Short...

What is the difference between Ka and Ku?

It's possible/probable that development in the K-band didn't happen until after the war, and may have even been proposed by one of our captured German scientists. Remember, if it hadn't been for Von Braun and his team of rocket engineers, our space program would have been years, perhaps decades...

What is the difference between Ka and Ku?

I believe that KURZ is German for short, e.g. short wavelength. The band designations came out of the development of radar during WWII. Other bands of interest: L-band - Radar Long band S-band - Radar Short band C-band - Compromise band X-band - Radar Spot band (X marks the spot)

Directv adds out of market WB to several markets without WB

It is WBZL WB-39 from Miami. Not sure why they are providing this channel instead of WB from Shreveport or Dallas, but I guess the out of market deal that DTV worked out with WB was for the Miami channel. BTW, Wehco also carries WB on cable in Longview and Kilgore. It is operated by KETK.
