What was your first satellite you got when you started with FTA?

I'd think many may not want to honestly participate in this discussion simply to avoid bringing up former quilty pleasures like ?????????????????, ###########, !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! and ************* which is where many of us I suspect learned to aim a Ku dish. My linear experience started...

Is there something in the air that effects signal strenth (Q)? excluding rain or snow.

May also want to consider the atmospherics at the uplink location. We might have a clear sky for the downlink but still get pixelation due to a weak or attenuated signal sent up to the sat.

    USALS on Openbox S9

One comment about the Openbox manual - maybe its better than having nothing but but the manual I got with my S10 was the same as what was in the box with the S9's I looked at. The pictures in the manual were not my S10 (or the S9 for the one in the S9 box.). It appears the manual was simply...

Would you pay subscription for a satellite transponder listings?

Haven't seen it mentioned but isn't this something that will be availabe to the buyers of the new micro hd box when it comes and that has the added feaure of giving you an automatic update to your system?

I need help getting a True South on dish motor

First thing to understand is your S10 may be one of the good ones so it will work fine or one of the bad ones that will drive you to pull your hair out. The meter readings are subjective so consider 45 and 5 as a baseline and the reading must change when you hit a sat. S is simply the power in...

Ku FTA signals between 30W and 72W

From the Toronto area I can get Amazonas at 61W. A bunch of encrypted stuff but also a looped sat service commercial you can fine tune on. Useful as a reference in setting up a motor/dish. Its my eastern limit as I have trees stopping me from getting anything farther east.

Has anyone got U.S channels on Ciel 2 Satellite 129W

There are numerous FTA sat and channel lists online including at the top of this forum and on lyngsat.com among others. Do a little googling and you will get your own answer quickest.

    Is 93 W really 121 Dish ? I'm confused

Pretty much the same for me. Don't have a due south reference sat anymore after 79w moved so tried compasss, google maps for my house, etc. Ended up guessing for "close enough" and used 125w and 60W as bookends with 83W in the middle to optimize the arc. Eventually got there by brute force...

    Is 93 W really 121 Dish ? I'm confused

For me when doing a first time set up the best news was that I actually was able to find a sat (any sat will do) so at least I know the hardware actually worked after what seemed like hours of chasing ghosts. Looks like you got over that step. Can't stress enough the need to have a vertical...

Will any satellite finder do or should I spend $?

I have a cheap but old RCA meter that I use because my Ku dish is up on the roof. It would be really difficult without something up with me on the roof to get any sat. It gets me close and then its up and down the ladder to fine tune using the STB but the meter helps as a go-back reference when...

Urgent can Satellite R6 cable interfere with internet cable?

So its not interference from other cables, sat or not .... Has your download speed changed at all? There are a few speed test websites you can use that will do both upload and download speed. If your download speed is still as fast as it was but your upload is now slower, it can be your PC...

I'd have to think its more Newfie than Blue Noser in origin but who knows....

Which satellite system should I buy?

It may come down to how you want to set up the two rooms, are you watching only one tv at a time or both, same channel on both or different channels, the quality you want etc. etc. You can simply go with a fixed 36" dish if all you want is the one sat, a cheapest possible STB (find a used one...

    New GEOSATpro microHD Receiver

Not to argue but this isn't exactly true. The European FTA community seems to be quite robust and dare I say it, its that market that seems to drive the toys we get to use. As such the manuals need to be German, French, Swedish, Dutch etc. etc. And even in North America there is a legal...

    galaxy 19..

Suggest you do all this set up manually as suggested and ignore all prior sat or TP lists and settings... While easy to use, the VS can be crappy for setting up true FTA using the defaults, especially if it had a previous life with third party firmware. VS was not realy intended for this hobby...

    galaxy 19..

Your STB doesn't know where it is pointed unelss you tell it. As suggested you often have to look at where you think you are pointed and see what channels you can get (if any at all), then looking it up on a channel list. And if you do get a sat, your dish set up will determine if you can get...

    diseqc switch outside?

Where you place the diseq switch can also be influenced by the cable run and type of STB you have. You can have situations where the switch can't get enough juice to flip ports if its too far away from the STB or if you have significant line loss due to say multiple dishes/lnb's. I've had to...

    Nebraska pbs gone from amc1

Seems like a trend, South Carolina ETV did this same thing not long ago. As it likely cost driven (streaming intenet has to be cheaper to distribute programming), can Montana, Oklahoma and LPB be far behind?

    FTA networks.

Going fixed KU dish is going to be very lmiting. Should note this is a hobby and for most not a primary TV source. If you want the full benefit of this hobby, best to invest in a motor.

    S10 OpenBox losing Time

I understand the concept and how it could apply to AC direct powered mechanical clocks (or other mechanical devices like turntables that use line frequency for motor timing) but I'd think digital clocks will use the DC current provided by the power supply/transformer so doesn't matter what AC...

    Freq. TP "Q"

Seems like your set up is not quite right. You should be able to get lots of sats across the arc from 50w to 130w with a motor if your mast is vertical, elevation correct, reference is properly due south and clean sightlines. Should be no issues with 83 or 97 or 101 or anywhere else. Sometimes...

    S10 OpenBox losing Time

Have to wonder how any digital device if at least on stand by power can't keep time properly. The clock chip either works or it doesn't as long as it gets power. Its not like its a mechanical clock that could fluctuate with voltage. Does someone purposefully make digital clocks that don't work...

    killed my s10

Maybe it depends which factory made which S10 out of what bits and pieces... my s10 case gets warm to the touch but not hot at all, and certainly not as hot as my VS Ex or Ultra could get. No need for a fan. Running October 2011 firmware.
