Hopper Timer Cancelled by Wife's Windows7 Laptop??

I've seen the same thing with my 1H/1J. My daughter cancelled a news timer from the Hopper (she didn't realize she could "red button" and grab a different tuner). The Joey reported that the timer was cancelled by my laptop. My guess is that the event is associated with an ID, perhaps a MAC or...

    Hopper S213 Feedback and Issues

Here's the wrist (gist). You should only have one active bridge between the ethernet and the MoCa networks. The HIC is a bridge. If your hoppers are connected to ethernet and MoCa, as of s213 they are also bridges. Look at all of your Hoppers and HIC, only 1 should be connected to both ethernet...

DLNA on Joey over MoCa without HIC

When did the Hopper become a bridge? I've been using ethernet on the Joey exclusively for a while (well over a month) and just went to MoCa to test a few things related to s213. After a lot of problems, I realized my Hopper is acting as a bridge, with full access to my ethernet over MoCa. Is...

    Hopper S213 Feedback and Issues

For those having Joey connection problems, do your Joey's have connections to both Coax (MOCA) and ethernet? I have similar problems when Joey's are connected to both, but not when I move the Joey to only one network. I think that S213 introduced a bridge loop or some other L2 problem in the...

    Hopper S213 Feedback and Issues

Do you have both the coax and ethernet connected on the Joey? I ask because this morning I was going to (subjectively) compare ethernet to MOCA. I normally have only ethernet plugged into the Joey. I connected the coax (with Ethernet still in) and reset the Joey. Joey could not find the Hopper...

    Possible Upcoming Software Update

I haven't had a chance to look at it yet. Only went to the living room once this morning to reset the Hopper (Joey wouldn't link).

    Possible Upcoming Software Update

I have only one Hopper, and got 213. The Joey was not upgraded. Personally, I would want to vet the software on a wide range of configurations, not just on the target config.

    Possible Upcoming Software Update

Independent. My Hopper went to S213 this morning. Joey is still S264. .

Archive to EHD a PTAT recorded program.

You must "save" the PTAT recording, then wait 8 days for it to actually save to the user partition (it will disappear from the PTAT folder but remain in My Recordings). Then you can transfer to EHD.

Hoak Media stations off Dish amid dispute

They can elect once every three years. I think the current election period started 1/1/2012 (Ouch).

Hoak Media stations off Dish amid dispute

Eggsactly. So if the broadcaster feels they need the carrier to reach a broader audience, they choose "must carry". If the broadcaster feels the carrier needs them to appease their subscribers, they choose retrans agreement. Dish is playing Who Needs Whom?
  14. J

Hoak Media stations off Dish amid dispute

Except that you have your logical condition backwards. "Dish is required by law to carry it, unless the broadcaster denies the right to carry." Is False. Dish may not carry without an affirmative agreement from the broadcaster (i.e. permission from the broadcaster). As the carrier and the...

Hoak Media stations off Dish amid dispute

"Must Carry" does not automatically kick in. If the broadcaster meets certain requirements, provides a feed (free of charge), and makes a request for carriage, then DISH "must carry" (if they carry any locals in that market). If the broadcaster requests a carriage fee, DISH can decline and "must...

Fox Sues Dish Over Ad-Skipping Auto Hop

If Dish wins it is a given that all DVR manufacturers will deploy some form of automatic commercial skip. It is the only option to remain competitive.

Fox Sues Dish Over Ad-Skipping Auto Hop

I am not aware of any complaint by Fox last year concerning Sling.

Fox Sues Dish Over Ad-Skipping Auto Hop

If you are trying to make an argument of Laches, it's more difficult than you think. Dish would have to prove that the delay in making a claim actually harmed their ability to defend.

Fox Sues Dish Over Ad-Skipping Auto Hop

Well, we are just going to be in disagreement on the intent of the second claim. I think it's pretty clear. As for time shifting, Fox makes it clear throughout the complaint that this is not about normal DVR usage (i.e. time shifting). Specifically they seek an injunction and damages only for...

Fox Sues Dish Over Ad-Skipping Auto Hop

I don't read it that way. Fox's complaint and claim for relief says that IF "Dish contends that the unlawful copying described herein is done by its subscribers", then Fox says, "B***S***." "Dish's regular involvement is an indispensable link in it's customer's infringing conduct." etc. IOW, We...

If they win, what exactly would they go after consumers for?

Fox Sues Dish Over Ad-Skipping Auto Hop

Fox isn't arguing that it IS VOD, but that it is similar enough to VOD (Dish literature even refers to it as "On Demand"), that it is materially different from standard DVR function, and (IMO, most importantly) that it was created to circumvent licensing VOD. I'm not trying to argue Pro or Con...

Fox Sues Dish Over Ad-Skipping Auto Hop

Yes, Dish, Dish and Dish. They aren't suing the consumers, they are suing Dish for providing the technology. Don't forget that after the Replay case was stayed, replay consumers sued the networks. The case was dropped when the networks promised not to sue Replay consumers. My point is that many...

Fox Sues Dish Over Ad-Skipping Auto Hop

I don't think it really matters exactly "how it works". Anyone with a Hopper knows how it functions without understanding the nuts and bolts. The point that Fox makes in their complaint is that DISH provides the technology and information necessary to automatically skip the commercials. Fox's...
