Long, fascinating article about Dish on Bloomberg Businessweek

You have to be ruthless to build what Ergen has and hold it. I laughed about the lawsuit involving Ergen's driveway. I'm proud to say I haven't let this job get the best of me.

Are these boots OK for installers?

Do not get a steel toe. You will pay the first time you get on a roof with any type of pitch. Get Nike boots. Their lightened weight, cushioning, comfort, and ability to jump into a customer's pickup game is unmatched. Don't take your boots off in a customer's house. You'll need them to kick an...

Will the Hopper Skip commercials feature be added to the 722k or other receivers

Does anybody know how PTAT and Autohop works? Are there compression algorithms running? How does the Hopper know when to skip commercials? Is there a PTAT team at Dish that hand deletes commercials ;)

Having a switch installed versus having two dishes

Switches don't degrade signal over time, but they do fail and the one for your system would require a dedicated electrical outlet for a power inserter. As far as fishing walls, you would pay if you wanted the installer to do it. You're better off calling an electrician because not all DNS techs...

Need help for Dish 500 plus with dish pro plus 500+ LNBF 163060

Double check your polar settings. If you are certain your rough azimuth setting is correct and you aren't getting even 1 Ird of signal on any of the orbitals, your reflector may be warped. Also, you should be sweeping azimuth ever so slowly from right to left. Real advice: don't even try to...

    ViP 722K started rebooting

I have seen the overheating issues more and more lately after the most recent software or firmware update. Apparently there is some bad code in the that is either causing the fans to shut off, or is forcing the system to work harder than it is supposed to. I had a day filled with service calls...

I need to get in touch with the comapny that makes the receiver for the hopper.

I have an idea. Figure out a way to convince Echostar that it would be profitable to design a set top box that doesn't take longer to get up and running than a windows installation.

I thought new dish and cable was required?

If your original install is that new it should be fine. Hopefully the tech explained to you that the system is still very glitchy, even when installed to spec. Proper ventilation and a little bit of patience when dealing with software updates is all you need to enjoy the system.

Dish Network Ordered to Change Social Media Policy

We don't necessarily have to badmouth Dish for them to want to fire us. Just giving the rest of the world the inside scoop is enough to make them look horrible from a ethical perspective. I actually enjoy the work more than I don't and I like my coworkers, all of them. I just think the pay...

Does dish have to be grounded?

This. Why are you stressing? That Node's going to fail before your ungrounded dish does.

Can Duo node be mounted outside, protected from weather?

As long as the cables run down from the ports, connectors are of the proper type, terminated correctly, and torqued, don't worry about it. And besides, it's free to you anyways.

Does dish have to be grounded?

Do you really think a messenger wire is going to protect the dish from a direct lightning strike? If you do, you can always call Dish and convince them to roll a truck back out to replace all the cabling. Besides, your Hopper is grounded if your electrical wiring was done correctly. Now go back...

    Those of you on EA

The 1000.2 is easier to aim for WA

I can't speak for 1k2 wa but 1k2 ea is a sloppy mess in my area. The polar plate flexes so much because the extra hardware used to secure it to the backing cannot be used. If the mount isn't completely level, a passing limit scan is out of the question. The reduced weight compared to the 1k4 is...

Dish is really starting to SUCK!

That is always the case when missing one orbital with modern ODUs. If it isn't LOS issues, it's a warped reflector. Your 500 was probably really beaten on for it to miss either orbital though. Those things are known to be tanks.

    Dish Distant Networks satellites

AAD is nothing more than a Dish workaround for the FCC's change in retransmission laws.Their proceeds go into an offshore account that is frequented by Joe. AAD's callcenter is ran out of a studio apartment and consists of one mentally challenged woman named Barb.
