    Software Version S342 is here

I have s338. I spoke with dish an hour ago and asked it there was a way I could do a manual update. No she said. She said who to unplug the hopper or use the power button on the hopper. I also talked about OTA recordings having problems. She put me on hold, came back with, we are not aware of...

    HR44/700 Software update 0x808, SWM Firmware 2.0.24

If you're running D* through your receiver, some receivers can auto-level the volume.

    HR44/700 Software update 0x808, SWM Firmware 2.0.24

I switched from D* to Dish 6 months ago and have mosquito noise on the local channels in HD. Fox 2 from San Francisco is the worst. D* wants me back. They are coming over tomorrow to upgrade the old D* dish and provide a Genie (I'll make sure it's the 44). I have 24hrs to compare D* to Dish...

Thinking of switching from Dish to DTV...Questions

I'm glad I read this post. I too am a videophile. Every 4-5 yrs I upgrade my gear. I now have a Sharp Elite PRO-70X5. The bigger the screen the more it shows a bad signal. Garbage in garbage out. BD is the best, followed by OTA then satellite. I had D* for 10yrs and decided to give Dish a...

Thinking of switching from Dish to DTV...Questions

I switched from D* to Dish 5 months ago. Local HD channels have mosquito noise. I don't remember D* having it with HD Locals. Bothers me so much I purchased an OTA indoor antenna. Much better. D* wants me back. I explained that I would be interested in coming back if I could have 24hrs to...

Newbie here, hello. My hd is not very good, why?

Just found this on the net too. Much easier to understand. http://www.differencebetween.net/technology/difference-between-mpeg2-and-mpeg4/ Difference Between MPEG2 and MPEG4 • Categorized under Protocols & Formats,Technology | Difference Between MPEG2 and MPEG4 MPEG2 vs. MPEG4 The Moving...

Newbie here, hello. My hd is not very good, why?

I just ran across this article, that says no compression of signal occurs prior to you receiving it... "Off-air antenna reception is the best way to enjoy digital programs at the full resolution the TV networks intended since no compression of signal occurs prior to you receiving it."...

Newbie here, hello. My hd is not very good, why?

I just received the OTA dongle from dish and hooked it up to the hopper. I can now do a direct comparison, OTA vs Satellite, same channel, thru the hopper. (FOX hd 720 is the test, and OTA looks much better than satellite.) The OTA signal shows a clearer, sharper picture and mosquito noise is...

Newbie here, hello. My hd is not very good, why?

I'm on other forums where I've asked owners of some of the same equipment I have, TV (Sharp Elite), processor (Anthem D2v) if they have Directv or Dish and can comment on the local channels (Fox in particular) having mosquito noise. One of the D2v owners chimed in with this explanation: Yes...

Newbie here, hello. My hd is not very good, why?

Well it seems on this forum one must choose their words very carefully for you'll be called out on it. Not a fun place to hang out. Does this sit better for you?..... The basic service tier requirement includes, at a minimum, the local broadcast television stations and the public, educational...

Newbie here, hello. My hd is not very good, why?

...so many inaccuracies. I agree, OTA is compressed, but no where as much as Cable or Satellite. How about taking the time to correct each and every inaccuracy and explain in full detail why so. Also while you're at it, point out the ones that are correct too. Gezzzz. You come off harsh. My...

Newbie here, hello. My hd is not very good, why?

I've learned a lot about providers (dish, directv, comcast, etc) and why some channels have better pq than others in their line up. Providers have to give you local stations, it's the law. That being said, what providers give us for local channels are very compressed signals and the quality of...

Newbie here, hello. My hd is not very good, why?

Being I switched from Directv to Dish about 5 months ago, I'll take a big $ hit to go back to Directv. Directv offered if I come back, they'd install a new dish and genie and let me try it for 24hrs and let them know if I want to stay with them. Instead of doing that, I bought an OTA antenna...

Newbie here, hello. My hd is not very good, why?

I agree. However the deal is for 24hrs, not a couple days. Oh and I'd be way under the 24hrs, for I'm certainly not going to pay 2 early termination fees.

Newbie here, hello. My hd is not very good, why?

I will and I will. In my prior post, Starz was showing Chimpanzee, the hd picture was outstanding in 1080i. 1080i vs 1080p, pq is so close you'd not notice the difference unless there is fast action. Progressive is better with motion. As far as why 9' from my 70" screen as my viewing...

Newbie here, hello. My hd is not very good, why?

Directv wants me back and have sent me 8 letters and 4 phone calls asking me to come back over the last 4 months since by switch. I just got off the phone with D* and explained my concerns about if D* is as good as they say. And that I don't want to leave E* in case the pq E* is providing is...

Newbie here, hello. My hd is not very good, why?

Sorry guys for I'm struggling with using the correct terminology. Blur/halo as I've mentioned in my previous post usually is attributed to motion, but not in this case, for as I wrote, I have gone thru all the motion settings including turning them off. Maybe the term I should use is macro...

Newbie here, hello. My hd is not very good, why?

I also wrote in that paragraph..."I've run the hopper to the D2v and also the hopper direct to the Pro-70x5fd." I'll elaborate more for you. The pq is better with the D2v processor, so it's not causing the problem.

Newbie here, hello. My hd is not very good, why?

I know most of the AV lingo, but being a newbie here, D* is Directv and E* is Dish? or do I have it reversed. "D* they recommended that subs use 1080i"...subs? I'm lost in that comment....subs. Pls elaborate, thank you.

Newbie here, hello. My hd is not very good, why?

Thank you. I just made the change in settings. Much easier to view posts as page one shows the op post and replies under it. (Easy to click on page one to read the original question) Now as pages increase you're always on the most current new page. (Seems the default setting is the other way.)

Newbie here, hello. My hd is not very good, why?

I'll ad some more information to my question about HD being somewhat watered down. As we all know, the larger the screen in 1080, not 4k, the larger the pixels. Like a billboard. If you're too close you see the pixels. My screen is 70", sitting distance is 9 feet. SD is unacceptable at that...

Good morning guys and thank you for chiming in. Being I just joined yesterday, I have a question about my settings. Does the most current reply show on the top of the page and the older ones below it? Other forums I'm on, like AVS, the most current reply is on the bottom of the page. Just...

Newbie here, hello. My hd is not very good, why?

I was with Directv for 10yrs, just switched to Dish/hopper. Sharp Elite pro-70x5fd pro calibrated, set as dot to dot. Hopper setting are 1080, 16x9, only watch hd. Couple weeks ago I watched the Superbowl on Fox HD channel 2 The pq looked like it was between sd and hd. Better than sd, but...
