Directv vs Comacast SD channels PQ

The SD will be the same on an HD box as on a SD box. If you watch a lot of SD, then you might want to stick with the cable. HD, however, looks great on D*.

How long will you wait for DISH to deliver before switching to DirectTV

Well, I'm going back to D* again after 18 mos. of Dish. If Dish would tell us what their plans are for HD, I might be tempted to hang around a while longer & give them a chance. But it looks to me like they are tapped out until they get up new sats. Otherwise they would be adding new channels...

Dish HD vs HD DVD: price and quality comparison

I have 4 HDTV's in various rooms. I have tried HDMI & component on all four. One looks better using HDMI. The other three look better with component. Try both. Use the connection that looks best. Every combo is different.

Dish HD vs HD DVD: price and quality comparison

I knew I shouldn't have bought an HD-DVD player! Dish HD looked really good until I got a taste of HD on DVD. Talk about a wow factor - HD DVD & Bluray (bought both)almost hurt my eyes. Now the Dish HD channels are OK, but the wow is long gone for me. Problem is, I can watch a Dish HD...

I got the corrupted hard drive message this morning, too. Pressed OK & it rebooted, all recordings intact, but still 3.66.

    PocketDish "Remote Link Tips"

My Pocketdish has locked up my 622 during the upload twice now. Had to do a reboot on the 622 each time to restore the 622 to an operable state. Has anyone else had this problem?

    SD/HD on Panasonic TH-50PX60U Plasma

I have a 50PX60U, a 42PX60U & a 37PX50U ALL on Dish HD. They are fabulous displays! You will be very happy with yours. Burn-in is a VERY over stated problem with these new plasmas. It's not unusual to get a little image retention now & then, but this is temporary whereas burn-in is...

    622 Just took a crap

Best to put a UPS on any device with a hard drive. I use one on my 622 & electrical flickers don't bother it. A $50 300VA is enough.

Honest opinions of DirecTV vs Dish......

Made the switch to Dish in June. Very happy so far. Better SD & HD pq on Dish than D*. D* would need to really improve to ever get me back.

can someone please answer a question for me!

TV2 does SD & HD as a modulated RF output on a channel of your choice. Because it uses NTSC format, everything from TV2's output on RF is 480i. But if you record an HD broadcast on TV2's tuner, you can watch it on TV1 in true HD. Everything recorded from either TV1, TV2 & off-air tuner is...

can you record ota hd with the dish network hd dvr622

I'm near St. Louis & have a Dish1000 with no issues on 129. My 622 has been flawless, but not as software convenient as my old D* HD TiVo. Overall, E* is enough better for me than D* to put up with the lack of a few features that TiVo has. Ideally, E*+TiVo would be primo!!

    Jumped Ship!!

Now that I have had E* for 2 days, I can attest that the HD IS better & most SD channels, especially the premiums, are sharper with better color than D* was. (As Van above mentioned, SD looks better using S-video input.) I'm VERY HAPPY so far! MUCH SUPERIOR TO D* in every way but the DVR; TiVo...

Long time D* guy looking to get more HD and going to the dark side

I just switched from D* after 10 years on Monday. I am impressed with E* so far. The HD pq is equal or better & most SD channels are better, as well. The 622 is faster than my HD TiVo was, but not as user friendly. Overall, pq & number of HD channels won me over with no regrets, so far.

What the heck up with D* vs Dish re: HD

Well, I've waited long enough for more HD. I have been with D* for 10 years & am having my E* install Monday. E* has 3-4 times the HD & the SD pq couldn't be any worse than the sub-VHS quality garbage D* has been passing as "100% digital" for the last several years.

    Jumped Ship!!

Well, after 10 continuous years with D*, I am switching to Dish for more HD. I have a few questions maybe someone could help me with: 1. With a Dish1000, two 211's & 1 611 w/dual inputs, will I need a DP34 switch or will I run four wires from LNB's directly to the STB's as I am now with my...

Directv HD DVR HDMI problem with Samsung LCD HDTV

Why don't you just use the component inputs? Most can't tell the difference on big displays, much less a small 32" screen. I am one of the pickiest on PQ & I can't see any benefit of HDMI. Iv'e tried both ways with my Sammy DLP & my Panny Plasma (HDTV, not EDTV, BTW). No difference.

Any D* to E* converts out there?

Hello everyone. I am not a frequent poster, but I read these forums with great interest almost daily. I would like some advice from you who have first hand recent comparative experience with D* & E*. From what I have gathered, E* has the edge at the present with HD. I have three HD setups...

Whats the deal with "HD Lite"?

I have been with D* since 1996 & D* HD since July '03. D* HD may not quite have the wow factor on some channels it used to, but it is still quite a pleasure to watch for me. My complaint is not the HD quality, but the SD quality or should I say the lack thereof. I don't even mind the...

    New HD Tivo software spooling...

The off - air signal meter issue has definately been fixed on my HD-TIVO with the "f" upgrade - I only have one sat. input. I do notice the actual levels seem slightly lower (by 7-8 points) than they did prior to the last upgrade that messed up the meter in the first place.
