EchoStar Announces Spectrum Sale and Commercial Agreement with SpaceX

DTV could be a good investment if cheap enough. C. could use the combined (remaining) customer base to negotiate lower programming rates, and just play it (& DiSH) out to wherever their ends are whilst growing his mobile base.

EchoStar Announces Spectrum Sale and Commercial Agreement with SpaceX

I'm not much concerned about my TV, in the greater scheme. I have DiSH and a 722k and that's all I need from DiSH

EchoStar Announces Spectrum Sale and Commercial Agreement with SpaceX

But it wasn't supposed to work that way. The spectrum was to be utilized, not simply held as some kind of appreciating asset to eventually sell on. The only thing that makes this remotely kosher would be that echo/boost is effectively entering into a joint arrangement with musk whereby it will...

EchoStar Announces Spectrum Sale and Commercial Agreement with SpaceX

This simply, if that word can be used, adds satellite to Boost, in similar or same manner as with, what is it, T-Mobile?, now advertising cell service with sat. So I would guess that in a way, even though the spectrum is sold, charlie's still employing it by continuing with boost including using...

EchoStar Announces Spectrum Sale and Commercial Agreement with SpaceX

Their press release says they had envisioned using the spectrum for satellite all along? And yet did nothing that would deploy it from space until now selling to elon musk to do it? And this is all legal because musk is a friend of the president....

Where can I find an old Dishplayer 7100?

I had a couple customers with dishplayers and I really loathed that thing. Not all that good at internet and downright crappy as a sat receiver. Just very offputting to operate, especially for a servicer. I guess the idea was to marry the new internet thing with the old TV thing, but it wasn't a...

16 years of Dish comes to an end

I find newer content generally less watchable. Really, most of this crap I wonder how people can watch it, let alone enjoy it as they say they do.

16 years of Dish comes to an end

So now they've gone down to offering a day-by-day service on Sling, only to have it help speed up their DBS demise.

Sling TV Launches Industry-First $4.99 Day Pass

So, I've recently been checking out the Sling Freestream app and have found quite a bit of 'limited" content such as a watered-down version of Fox News that apparently has its own production separate from the regular channel (and it always seems to be what the app starts you out on.). But have...

    Dish Installs

So this seems to tell me that DiSH is undercutting DiSH Boost Mobile locations with their own direct-to-subscriber Boost marketing at lower rates. Very familiar, this is essentially what they did to the dealers instead of making referrals to them. Their whole mantra was just get activations, the...

    Dish Installs

So they do this as a go-to-home service? Isn't all of that usually done at a retail location? Are they thinking such service will be a marketing advantage over the big fellas? If there's need for tech help once on the service, will there be in-home service calls for that? Will people expect or...

    Cancelled DirectTV Sat

Wouldn't they just love that. I remember when DTV got ST (in the 90s if memory serves) and they just couldn't activate subscriptions quick enough. I can pass on the CTE League.

    Orbitron SX-10 Dish

Right, for the ones that weren't so solidly designed and thus flexed. I seem to recall claim made that buttonhook blocks more signal than struts, because it's blocking some of the reflected (magnified) signal rather than some of the ambient signal (before reaches the dish). But yes, far more...

    Orbitron SX-10 Dish

I never had any issue with the buttonhook as it's very solid, sliding into a tube welded to the faceplate of the center compression hub. Somehow looked better to me than the 4 struts as well. Also with the low f:d ratio it's fairly short.

    Marquee question

Tonight I saw a Cubs game on in a bar, evidently on the Marquee channel, the Cubs' own answer to YES, and there's of course a crawl going full time at the bottom, frequently reminding to "get the app or go to marquee.com, and call your provider to watch." It's "either, or", right...

Traditional/Streaming Live TV Providers Losses, 2nd Quarter 2025 Edition

But that's actually backward- they've only been hanging onto so many TV subs because they have them for broadband. So if they're losing more from broadband now than from TV, they're cratering. Competition like fiber is coming online in more of their areas.

    Dish500_guy's Talk About It! Thread

As an originating DiSH dealer, I of course recall the rollout of DiSH 500. I digress, but you may have noticed that I type DiSH with a small "i"- as DiSH originally did. It stands for Digital Sky Highway, a takeoff on the Internet having been referred to as the "information superhighway"...

    Echostar prepares potential bankruptcy filing

Well the gov't in its wisdom decided that the "airwaves" which, per the 1934 Communications Act, "belong to the people," are better sold off to the highest industrial bidder as long as he uses them to commercial gain. I don't remember if or what "collatoral" gov't may have req'd of bidders in...

    Echostar prepares potential bankruptcy filing

Unless I completely misunderstood things, C had to put the spectrum to gainful work by a deadline or lose it altogether- not be paid back for having it taken back. What would be the risk in that? He could then drag out using it without real penalty. Gov't wants both its $ as well as the spectrum...

    Echostar prepares potential bankruptcy filing

Not a law, but effectively so. A contractual obligation. Absolutely he cannot simply sell any of the spectrum, that was rule 1 of the auctions, no reselling. Also he has to make commercially effective use of the spectrum by certain deadlines (which are now passing) or surrender it without...
