I live in the Minneapolis area I'm upgrading from a 522. I had HD a year or so ago (using a 211) but dropped it.

I currently have two 500 dishes and receive programming on the 110, 119 and 61.5 satellites. Will I need to update my dishes for HD if I upgrade to a 722 receiver? If not, does Dish still need to have a service tech. install the 722 or will they let me do it myself? Thanks.

the 301 has a card but I don't remember what color. I just remember when I was checking to see if it worked that it said the programming would expire June 9th (?) and that a new smart card was needed. Are the cards specific to the receiver? If I were able to get a "purple" card elsewhere...

My dad has an old old Dish receiver so i picked up a used 301 to replace it with. I called Dish and there's no outstanding balance on it but they wanted over $60 ($49+$9shipping+tax) for a new smart card. Is there anyway to get one cheaper? Thanks.

Yup, the signal strengths are good (100+). The receiver he has in the house (501? or 510?) doesn't have the guide problem that the 3900 does.

the reason I want to know is because I currently have a Leased 811 but want to dump the old HD pack & Voom. But if I dump the HD pack Dish wants the 811 back as that's a requirement of being able to lease a 811. Hence I'd like to buy a 811 since i get a better picture on the non-HD channels...

if i bought a 811 of ebay that doesn't have an outstanding balance will Dish activate it without requiring the HD package? thanks.

How would that affect being able to record from the 811? :confused: It sounds like he just needs to enable the correct input on the DVD recorder to match the outputs from the 811.
