Hi:
The Viewsat 9000HD has this line in it specifications:
DVB-S2: Auto, ?, 3/5, 2/3, ?, 4/5, 5/6, 8/9, 9/10 (QPSK)
Looks like it might support DVB-S2 but the receiver costs about $450.00

Hi:
I don't want to distress anyone but, from what I have observed in my 'area of the woods' about one percent of those who purchase FTA receivers actually use them only to receive legitimate FTA signals. Dish Network is very popular in Canada.

Hi:
Canadian Tire had a 'one day sale' which included a $260.00 KitchenAid set for $80.00 plus deals on a digital camera, tool box, and a treadmill. They sell a lot of different things at Canadian tire and also repair cars. They even own a clothing retail business called "Marks Work...
Hi:
Lots of great deals. Unfortunately my Christmas present to myself is a set of good cookware at 70% off at Canadian tire.......... no money left of satellite stuff. I used to be such a 'cool' guy. Now I'm drooling over pots and pans! Somethings wrong with me.
cheers

Hi:
I replaced my Fortec Lifetime Ultra a few months ago with a Viewsat Ultra. I've never had any problems with it and the Viewsat controls my Stab motor fine. I recommend it but I have never owned a Coolsat or a Travis so I cannot compare between them.
Hi:
I used to have a Fortec Ultra. It seemed to work well. It would blindscan and seemed to pick up all the stations. Anything with a signal level of 30 or above would be picked up okay. My friend has a Coolsat 6000. He seemed to pick up most of the stations I could. He needed a signal...
Hi:
I have a Stab hh120 motor hooked to one of those old Starchoice dishes. It moves very slowly. Also it slips a bit when it goes east of my true south position so I cannot get my eastern satellites. I expect the dish is just too heavy for the motor.
cheers

Hi AMC1:
Never had any problems with that old Starchoice dish. I get about the same number of channels as you. Worked well in conjunction with my old Fortec Ultra and seems to behave with my new Viewsat Ultra. Now that I have two receivers I am tempted to find another dish to hook up to...
Hi:
My new Viewsat Ultra came with a USB drive. This is used for loading updates to your software. Very useful, I would expect, for hackers.

Hi:
Sorry but I have no quick fixes for you. One thing I can tell you is that the satellite you pick up your stations from also sends the information for your guide (EPG). In the case of FTA there is almost never EPG information sent so if you have no information in your guide that...
Hi:
I would be temped to simplify the issue by disconnecting the circular output from your LNB. If that did not improve the situation I would temporarily bypass the switch and run one of your KU outputs directly to the receiver you get G10R on. If you still have no success I might try a...
Hi:
Thats a good question. I have the same motor and there is a lot of play in it. My problem is at the center 'tipping point'. Everything to west of my true south (64W) is okay because it is compensated for but if I go east of that the motor mount connected to the dish settles a bit...
Hi:
A couple of nights ago I seen my Blue Jays pick on the Yanks on G10R (RTN11). Made my day! Unfortunately the Jays have problems with Baltimore. I guess Orioles are meaner birds then Blue Jays!

Hi:
My owner has one of those telephone systems that have two handsets. He used to leave one phone on the floor near the TV and carry the other one onto the roof and set them up for 'intercom'. He could hear the TV pretty good.
I quickly put a stop to that by stealing the phone by the TV...
Hi:
To get the channels that could normally be received over the Dish Network dish you would need to suscribe to the 'Dish Network' services. There is a monthly fee involved.
An indoor UHF/VHF TV antenna such as 'rabbit ears' would pick up a few local TV stations if they are close to you...
Hi:
It sounds okay not not astoundedly advanced over my old Fortec Ultra. I'm not sure how valuable it would be to me to be able to tape 40 minutes of a show.........get that up to two hours and I might be interested. The USB support and ability to hook up an external hard drive, however...
Hi:
Is there a place available where that information can be posted? I can understand why it might not be a good idea to post it................ it might disappear tomorrow........... but it would be nice to know what is new and where it is.
cheers
Bryce
Hi:
Don't worry. All is not lost. If you are reasonable close to a CBC television station just pick an a TV antenna and stick it on your roof. I'm a little far from most stations but I bought one with a rotor from 'The Source'. The signals were a little weak and I improved them when a...
Hi:
If any of you guys have broadband you might want to search your browser using the keywords 'free broadband tv'. There are various programs you can download that will allow you to watch some television stations over the internet. While most of the free ones are foriegn language (like...
Hi again:
I answered my own question by following your link a little farther. That satellite is about seven degree west of the max my motor will take my dish. Maybe later this summer I will stick another dish up and give it a try. Probably doomed. There is a big house that is probably in...
Hi Sadie:
Good to see a fellow Nova Scotian on the forum. I'm using a one meter (old Starchoice) dish. I can't move to that satellite and check it at this time as my buddy is in the middle of Magnum PI on RTN.
I have two channels listed for that satellite. (TV1 and TV3) I don't...
Hi W_Tracy_Parnell:
I just took a look at your forum. Not the place for a left-winger like me! I'm used to the Xandros Linux forums. We talk politics but there are a lot more Liberals then Conservatives. Gets pretty 'lively' sometimes and the moderators are suggesting we concentrate on...
