AirTV Mini and Tivo Stream 4K

Orrrrrrrrr, Android TV remotes should have playback controls. Boom. Problem solved.

AirTV Mini and Tivo Stream 4K

I never liked the way the FireTV phone app worked. It often takes time to connect. I will try the Google app, of course. But, using a remote is much easier than unlocking a phone, opening the app, and waiting to connect, when all I want to do is pause or rewind or something simple like that. I...

AirTV Mini and Tivo Stream 4K

I think I'm just gonna go ahead and get two of these. I might get used to the remote in time. I hope. The Google Store has a special offer with 6 months of Netflix for only $30, when you buy two Google TVs. (I'm not gonna call them the full stupid name because it's stupid.) The offer can be...

AirTV Mini and Tivo Stream 4K

The remotes are quite different, too. That remote looks like the best of the bunch, including Fire TV and even nVidia Shield. BTW, can you bypass the Sling UI, and use the Google Launcher as the default Home app?

AirTV Mini and Tivo Stream 4K

After further research, I did find out that I can pair a Fire TV remote to the new Chromecast w/Google TV. (Google has the worst naming conventions.) The only thing that doesn't work is the voice search, which is a bit of a pain, as I use it a occasionally with my Fire TV's. I would imagine this...

AirTV Mini and Tivo Stream 4K

Thanks. I forgot to include that one in my post It's definitely something to consider. But, I really don't like that remote. How much extra would it have cost to include normal playback controls? I may not like the Fire TV UI and ecosystem. But, the remote is almost perfect. I wish all ATV...

AirTV Mini and Tivo Stream 4K

Has anybody used either of these two devices? I'm looking to replace my FireTV devices with Android TV devices that are a little more customizable and open, less locked into an ecosystem like Amazon. These two dongles look pretty good. From just looking online, the Tivo's UI looks better, as...

Official SatelliteGuys CBS / DISH Dispute Thread

It's available on Netflix outside of the US. If only there was some technology that allowed you to connect to the Internet virtually via a private network server in another country. Then, you'd be able to watch it with your regular Netflix account. If only such a thing existed.

FOR SALE Yamaha RX-A3000 "Aventage" AV Receiver

Like-new condition. This was Yamaha's flagship model in 2011. It kicks the proverbial ass. With original box, all accessories, papers, and FREE Yamaha YBA-11 Bluetooth Adapter! Original MSRP was $1700! I paid around $1400, I believe. Asking $620 shipped to continental US. Specs and other info...

Fido TV and In Country TV?

No excuse at all. If the feed is 16:9, they should carry it in 16:9, regardless if it is SD.

Fido TV and In Country TV?

Fido TV is SD. But, it's the worst kind of SD. It's a 16:9 image inside a 4:3 window inside a 16:9 TV screen. So, you end up with a small fuzzy 16:9 image with a big black border around it. Or, you can change Aspect to Zoom. But, it just looks fuzzier then. The fact that it's originally a 16:9...

What do you think if Apple tried to buy Dish Network!?!

You obviously haven't used Android in a while. The plain vanilla version from Google, and the only slightly altered versions found on current Moto and some other brand products, are perfectly usable without customization. Of course, the bloated versions one finds on Samsung, HTC, and the like...

What do you think if Apple tried to buy Dish Network!?!

Getting back to the more appropriate area of discussion, which is Apple's business model, not their HW, SW, or OS. Their business model is keeping their users tied into a closed ecosystem, forcing you to source all of your content through them. And, that is simply unacceptable to me.

What do you think if Apple tried to buy Dish Network!?!

Time Capsule. Time Machine. Time Tunnel. Whatever.

What do you think if Apple tried to buy Dish Network!?!

Other than Marshmallow, I don't find that to be true at all. (KitKat and Lollipop were both better than Marshmallow.) Plus, Android is far more customizable. And, I'm not locked into the Apple ecosystem. Those last two points being my primary reasons for choosing it.

What do you think if Apple tried to buy Dish Network!?!

Compare the cost of a WD external HDD to an Apple "Time Machine". (Their stupid naming conventions are just the icing on the gravy, for me.)

What do you think if Apple tried to buy Dish Network!?!

??? There are tons of comparable items available. We don't need to know the cost of manufacture, only the cost of purchase.

What do you think if Apple tried to buy Dish Network!?!

I have owned multiple platforms, and currently have Windows, OSX, and Android products in my household. (I no longer own any iOS products.) For the equivalent HW, Apple products always cost more, often substantially more. And, I personally prefer Windows 7 over any version of OSX, and Android...

HWS or H3? Upgrade now or wait 2 months?

Scott is correct. It should be quite an awesome bit of gear. But, don't hold your breath for a February release. That date sounds overly optimistic.

    Annoying Nightly Reboot

The thing I've never understood is why the EPG and SW updates aren't done via the Internet on connected receivers.
