For new dish customers, the installation is $50 but the $50 is credited back with 18 month commitment. So what is the advantage of the clubdish? Is there additional $50 back, so you get free installation and make $50 as well?

You might be confusing two different HD receivers. The $199 is the 622 HD-DVR receiver. It is not free for new customers, still $199. The free receiver is the 211 HD receiver, without DVR.

Are you able to use the 622 as a tuner, even without subscribing to any Dish programming and no satelite dish? If it is tuning in OTA HD channels, maybe you can program manual timer recordings just like a VCR.
