Will my installer take down a competitors dish

Depends on the installer and if they can use the same mount for the new dish. If I pole mount a new dish I'm not going to go on the roof and remove an old dish. Thats just me. Wait and see what happens is all I can say.

Good diplexer to use with HR-22 and AM21?

Diplexers don't work to well because Swm and the antenna frequencies are pretty much the same. Can't have same frequency on same line from two different sources. Have you ever tried playing with two remote control cars which were both 27mhz or 49mhz. Doesn't work. Same thing with DTV signals...

    Wires on DirecTV box

You should be fine thats what coating on the cable is for. Most cables actually have a shield built into the cable to block interference. I wouldn't worry about it at all.

Installing an HR22 confused not sure if I'm missing a step

The new HD receivers have ODU Validation software built into them now. It actually tests that you have A. 2 sat lines connected into the back and B. a slimline outside. If you are trying to run those boxes on a standard round dish your going to have all sorts of problems. Those are the most...

    Satellite Grounding Question

Their are a few guys I work with myself included that won't deal with a butt-hole customer that jumps on your back as soon as you get out the truck. I'll roll out. My fuse is too short and it wouldn't take much before I start swinging. Never know, you might have pissed off the best installer in...

copying from Direct TV HD DVR to DVD

Don't think DTV has released the info or even the software to do this. I think you can transfer via the usb port in the future but right now the only way is to send the video and audio to something else via the receivers connections, RCA, HDMI, Component, SVideo. In other words run connections...

    Satellite Grounding Question

I don't disagree with someone calling in on a sloppy tech. Hell a few of us track down some of them because we are having to fix their crap. Weird thing about this business is their isn't a lot of consequences for sloppy work. Hell a lot of times its hard to track down who actually did the...

    Signal Strength #2

101 and 119 will trick most people into thinking they have great signal strength. 103 is going to be the sat you need to look at for HD. It really needs to read in the mid 90's on a clear day. If the dish is off most of the time the 101 and 119 signal will still read high but the 103 and 99 will...

    Satellite Grounding Question

I totally understand its important to ground, I'm just trying to throw out that you can't always ground. My installs are always BEAUTIFUL! Sometimes those installs are not grounded because their isn't a grounding source, at lease near the dish and poe. In this part of the country, Eastern NC...

    Satellite Grounding Question

Sometimes you can't ground a system. Its impossible because of dish location and POE. I hate customers like the above that will call in and bitch and moan about a dish not being grounded. I have to drive 50 miles for twenty bucks and find out their is no grounding source. We are not allowed to...

    Slimline 5LNB vs Slimline 3LNB

The three years of being a tech their have been several issues which where DTV's fault and not the customer equip. Your problem may very well be an issue that only the people sitting behind the computers or the engineers can solve. I know I've came across my fair share of problems which were not...

    MPEG4 Pixellation

I'm almost 99 percent sure those low readings are the problem. People don't realize how imperative it is to have really high readings on the 99 and 103. Usually you can have a crappy signal on the 99 and 103 but the 101 is in the upper 90's don't let this fool you. I'm sure your dish isn't off...

    Local Channels

Check your signal strength on the 99 and 103 sats. If your local market is like mine you still need the smaller dish for 72.5 sat. The second dish is being phased out and the locals are moving to the slimline but thats in the future. Make sure your getting a signal reading of 90 or above on 99C...

    HR20-700 Pixilation Issue

Try unplugging the box for a few seconds to give it a hard reboot and see what happens. If you still get pixilation check the signal strength and make sure the box is configured to the dish or dishes you have outside....

    LNB SWM

Honestly, now this is coming from a tech. This stuff is getting harder and harder to install. If you feel your savvy enough to try it out then go for it but from my experience a lot of home owners have wasted hours trying to figure out how to connect the slimline up and even more trying to align...

    Slimline 5LNB vs Slimline 3LNB

Have you checked the quality of the cables. They usually have what type they are written on them. If your using anything other than solid copper center conductor then the high freq. Copper Clad Steel cable is used a lot by contractors and its usually is what is installed inside a home, hd...

    RV HDTV /DTV question

Winegard versions of the slimline are fine. Their are a few other manufacturers and they are also fine. The new 3Lnb will pick up all HD programming in fact the 99 and 103 are the sats for HD. For size and simplicity go with the 3LNB. If your buying a dish off the net I suggest you make sure you...

    RV HDTV /DTV question

You need to replace that entire setup and replace it with a ka/ku slimline dish. That lnb your asking about is the slimline 3lnb. The first generation of slimlines used the long 5LNB which looks at the following sats. 99,101,103,110,119. DTV is phasing the 110 and 119 out. Pretty much the only...

    RV HDTV /DTV question

As far as I know you can't use a dual LNB for HD. You'll need a ka/ku slimline dish along with the 5Lnb or newer 3LNB which is used for 99, 101,103. Believe me I've actually tried mounting the slimline 3LNB to a smaller DTV triple sat. dish. It doesn't work.....The way DTV built their equipment...

    Question about Magnetic Declination Help?

So I've been installing Directv sats for four months now. Before I started I didn't have the first clue about installing dishes. Never installed one in my life. I didn't really get much training one week to be exact. I have a question about magnetic declination. My lat and long are as follows...

    Ok FTA Channel Questions

First off newbie here. I have found the websites which list most of the FTA programming but I haven't really found a description of what it shows. Newbie(sort of) wanting advice

I've been installing DirecTv Sats for four months now. Before I didn't have a clue about how sat systems work. I'm still learning. I've recently stumbled across the FTA transmissions and thought about trying it out. I have a few questions though. Dish and Directv use stationary dishes no motors...
