    The Weather Channel....is BACK!

Have not taken in everyones thoughts on this, my thoughts below as a weather enthusiast, I am not a Direct customer but have been, same with Dish, I am now with Charter. TWC has done this themselves, the channel should be about weather, not reality TV, I have not witnessed but heard of severe...

    SSD...Worth it?

I have 2 systems running Intel SSD's, probably 1 year or more at this time, one is a video editing/gaming rig, the other is our laptop used by the whole family daily but also gets mounted and used frequently in our car.

    Charter internet

Charter is no longer supposed to be charging for modem rental, it should be rolled into the monthly cost along with this new accounts are required to use Charter supplied modems. If you are still seeing it on your bill I would contact them, I have had great results with the online team on...

922 loud fan and black screen

Opened it up just for grins, did see 2 bulging capacitors....We just don't watch much TV anymore, the only thing that has kept me from dropping is we like to take in an occasional St. Louis Cardinal game...The box arrived today to return the 922, the 722 has been up and running for over a week...

    DP 44 Necessary

Hopper with 1 or 2 Joeys, hopefully March 15. :)

    DP 44 Necessary

I must have a DP500/1000 as we used to need 118.7 for our locals. I assume it's something that can be dealt with when I upgrade. This came up as I am trying to eliminate/minimize our electric usage, hoping I can eliminate the DP44 and the inserter.

    DP 44 Necessary

My current setup is a 922 that is fed by a DP44, more than likely I will be changing to the new hopper/joey setup. Is my DP44 necessary? We are on the Western Arc, we used to use the 4th bird at 118.7 for our locals, but they have since moved and I no longer have that being fed into the switch...

What do you use for GPS in the car and are you happy with it?

Our Garmin Nuvi is several years old now and still does a decent job, at this time we would likely be wise to replace it other than upgrading the maps. Two years ago I invested in Garmin Mobile PC which has been discontinued, it was like having a Garmin on your laptop, if you travel with the...

Anyone try SpiderOak for cloud backups?

I have used Carbonite for several years now and my renewal is coming up in January. It works great, I really wish it was cheaper to add more computers. Currently I have my computer that updates my weather website act as a document server for all systems in our home. The "document" folder is the...

    Dish Approval for RG6

Not sure if your familiar with a local supply house: Home - Skywalker Communications They may be able to help, I have seen "approved" cable in their catalogs in the past on what I believe would be their own line of coax.

Tell me why I should wait on the XIP receiver system?

I have an hdmi splitter in my closet with my 922, it feeds hdmi to the living room tv, bedroom tv and the projector in the basement. If I want to watch something different in the theatre room I fire up the HTPC, login to Dishonline recline and :popcorn

How to "COPY" DVR movies to HDD as a backup ... possible?

If you are having multiple failures I would be looking at the placement of the unit causing high temperatures or you may have some sort of electrical issue. Drives do fail, but it's not the "norm".

Taking my son to his 1st professional football game this Sunday...

Still remember the days of the St. Louis Cardinal football team. My Dad would take my brother and I to the last game of the season in late December against the Washington Redskins. It was always really cold and 1 or 2 years it snowed all day, we had snowball fights in the stands. Enjoy the day...

I would wait until tomorrow before jumping to any conclusions. It is well known that these receivers can be a bit buggy for the first 24-48 hours.

    SSD...Worth it?

I have been using SSD's in my laptop and a desktop for 6 months now. I love the way they perform, not to fond of the price/storage ratio yet. I had some customers asking about them, so I figured I better get to know the particulars. The laptop does get used on the road on occasion when I get out...

How to Handle 1/2 million files in XP

It was bearable until recently when the numbers approached 500,000. With only 50,000 images it would open very quick.

How to Handle 1/2 million files in XP

I can specify how many frames each image is used, if I wanted to use all images from the year. I was thinking more about noon each day or maybe each sunset, as the software allows me to specify certain times or sunrise/sunset.

How to Handle 1/2 million files in XP

Images are saved each minute, I guess if I changed it to every two minutes it would cut the number of files in half. Things worked decent until recently when the files exceeded 500,000. No luck on source code, doesn't look like anything has been done on the programs used to archive images or...
