    Sirius/XM sound quality?

I agree with most of the previous posts in that Sirius's sound quality is not at a CD level and is roughly comparable to FM sound quality (and may be worse). I just hooked Sirius up through my Onkyo receiver and am disappointed regarding the SQ as it was touted to me as being comparable to...

Satellite Radio Thru Home Audio Receiver

I just added Sirius to my Onkyo home receiver. I used an SCH1 which has a connection to the back of the receiver, a transmitter and an antenna (everything you need). I picked it up at cc for $20 on liquidation. You can also find them at Amazon and BB.

Why Blu Ray will win the War

Harry Potter is not exclusive to BD -- it is currently only available as a foreign HD DVD release (no region coding so you can watch the UK edition here in the US). I would add studio support to your list. As I've argued elsewhere, I think your list is offset by the lower price and...

    Blu-Ray 7 to 3 over HD-DVD for 2007?

I just noticed this string. This is the most informative report I've seen so far though certainly biased towards Sony. But there's some very interesting data here. I totally agree with teachsac's comments -- I think he's given some of the most useful observations thus far and avoided the...

Why HD DVD has the edge in the format war

A couple of quick responses: 1. I frankly don't know whether HD DVD has a cost advantage. I've read in some forums that they have a lower per unit cost of production in terms of the players and also that HD DVDs can be produced at a lower cost compared with Blue Ray. Even if this is not...

Why HD DVD has the edge in the format war

As an HD DVD owner, I have found myself at times questioning the long-term viability of this platform. After all, Blue Ray has more studios on board, has all of those PS3s, and appears to have stronger retail support. So, how can HD DVD survive and perhaps even win this format war? It is...

Do we know if this is supposed to speed up the player boot up times or fix the freezes associated with playing rented HD DVD disks?

    23" to 26" LCD HDTV

I have a 26 inch Syntax Olevia which works great! It doesn't have a tuner but the current version (or the 27 inch version) may have one. Check the CompUSA and OfficeDepot websites.

    Content relief coming....

I think this is key. Universal needs to get a list of these titles offically out soon to slow down the BD momentum. These releases would definitely put HD DVD on an equal footing with BD in terms of the quantity and quality of overall releases.

$3000 to spend on TV at Best Buy - which one?

I would personally go with the SXRD. The latest model has the speakers underneath so you may be able to get the 60 inch. But the 55 inch would work as well and it is a fantastic TV! Also, make sure and take into consideration your viewing distance before deciding on the size of the tv. I...

So fanboys, what is so great about your format?

I have HD DVD and the argument in favor of it is simple. It is the best bang for the buck! You get equal, if not better, picture and sound quality compared with Blue Ray but at a much lower cost. For example, you can get the current or older model Toshiba HD DVD player for under $500 and...

    Bill Hunt Picks The Winner

I have been an avid HD-DVD supporter but I agree that BR now has a strong edge. You can see this in a number of different areas. Their is a huge difference in upcoming title releases for 2007. BR is also highly featured in prominent A/V magazines and in the big retailers -- there is simply...

    How Can HD DVD win?

Now that CES is over, my main question is: how can HD DVD win this format war? I have an HD DVD player and am an avid supporter of that format but I see three formidable obstacles in the way of HD DVD: 1. Marketing support - For whatever reason, the big box retailers seem to be on the Blue...

    Any dual-tuner OTA hd-dvrs available?

I have an Sony HDD500 as my main OTA receiver/DVR and a Voom box. I split a feed into both and watch on the Voom box when I am recording on the HDD500. If you want to record on two OTA channels at once then you may want to get two HDD250s on Ebay (about $200-$300 each). I don't know of...

    Voom Dsr550

A universal remote like a Harmony will work. You need to scan your local channels (I believe its the green button twice but I'm not sure) and then you can check off the channels you want to include in your selection. There is no channel guide.

    FiOS TV...the VOOMless HD Leader?

I think FIOS is going to add Food and HDTV HD this month so they should gain two new ones.

    New 1080p HDTVs compared

I checked the Mits 57 inch at a big box retailer and it's at under $2400. That's amazing considering my Sony 50 inch Grand Wega was $3200 just 2 1/2 years ago. To think you can buy a 57 inch 1080p tv now for about 1/3rd less than a 50 inch 1080i tv was a few years ago. Pretty amazing!

FIOS or DISH -- Which should I choose?

I have to say that my service expectations aren't that high. But I've had a lot of bad experiences with Verizon. Have you ever gone to get a phone repair at a Verizon wireless location? Not fun. And I certainly don't expect the Dish reps to know a lot but it would be nice to talk to...

FIOS or DISH -- Which should I choose?

Well, I finally decided to cancel FIOS and go with Dish. The ultimate decision was not due to Dish having more HD channels or a better HD DVR -- what finally tipped the balance for me was customer service, or lack thereof. I have called FIOS a total of 4 times now and each call took more than...

FIOS or DISH -- Which should I choose?

Well, I finally got to compare my fios set-up with my neighbor's Dish set-up. The comparison was necessarily imperfect because he has a 37 inch LG LCD and I have a 50 inch Grand Wega III. I compared three HD channels and 3 SD channels and also looked at the Voom channels. Here are my...

FIOS or DISH -- Which should I choose?

I know what you are saying. Degredation of picture quality can make a huge difference in viewing interest. For example, the picture quality that I had for HDNET and HDNETMOVIES from Adelphia was not nearly as good as I have with FIOS. Now, I watch these channels a lot more.
