EchoStar Announces Spectrum Sale and Commercial Agreement with SpaceX

Only thing to make it better would be to lower the DVR Equipment fee. That box is a beast.

EchoStar Announces Spectrum Sale and Commercial Agreement with SpaceX

Being allowed to sell it for a profit has to be lucky. If it is legitimately being squatted on, FCC should have the mechanisms to take it back and re-auction. This is a very peculiar move. Dish/Echostar profits off US property that was licensed to them. All of this is because of outside factors...

EchoStar Announces Spectrum Sale and Commercial Agreement with SpaceX

Are they at least going to want that $2 billion back in any sort of deal? Yes, Dish is solvent again, but the number of asterisks for that statement are higher than average. He was able to get out from under crushing debt. However, the current climate in DC that allowed as such is unusual and...

EchoStar Announces Spectrum Sale and Commercial Agreement with SpaceX

That is possible, but he did spend billions building out a mobile network. Additionally, there was a plan to use the spectrum for private corporate deals. 5G ended up underperforming for a lot of applications and the ability to monetize some of the spectrum likely contracted for Charlie. He bet...

EchoStar Announces Spectrum Sale and Commercial Agreement with SpaceX

$8.5 billion in SpaceX stock!? Yipes! Of course. Almost like Charlie invented that plan to provide leverage desperately needed for the fire sale.

EchoStar Announces Spectrum Sale and Commercial Agreement with SpaceX

It should be noted that it was pressure from the FCC for Dish to sell the spectrum. Which seems illegal, but what is legal these days... seems to have shifted. So while a normal functioning FCC would be saying "Hey... wait a second..." Charlie might just pocket this. The only other people who...

    AT&T Aquires some DISH Spectrum

Actually, Musk just recently bought into a biolab firm that was looking exclusively into doing just this. Expect an announcement in the next few months. ;)

    AT&T Aquires some DISH Spectrum

On top would be Boost becoming a mobile phone powerhouse. Right now Ergen is getting out from under. If these sales stand, he'll be in a much stronger footing, but crawled through some muck to get there.

    AT&T Aquires some DISH Spectrum

Sets a bad precedent for treating licenses as commodities. Yes, Ergen did build something out, but the intent of the auction was to auction the licenses to corps that'd use them. Meanwhile, in the new world order, does this fund the Echostar LEO internet plan?

    AT&T Aquires some DISH Spectrum

Lost channels for extended periods of time... that was 10 years ago. Dish's weakness is sports. People are leaving because they can pay much less to get access to the programming they were paying for at other locations such as HBO Max and Disney+, which provide a rich amount of high-end content...

    AT&T Aquires some DISH Spectrum

Being a tad bit harsh here. Yes, it appears that the 5G gamble didn't pay off, but the fact that Dish had a cell company at all was nothing really short of brilliance on Ergen's part. He was able to leverage a merger of two other companies to get a mobile company of his own. That was outrageous...

    Founder’s Message + Wireless Offer

I've been with Boost for 24ish months, but just recently let go of Dish. It took Dish forever to put this together and why in the heck they haven't slogged together Sling and Boost into a package (obviously for more) is beyond my comprehension. Regardless, final bill is about $25. I've been...

    AT&T Aquires some DISH Spectrum

The reports are a bit vague and it has been a slow process of figuring out what has actually happened. When is Echostar going to sell Boost... effectively? The biggest issue I've seen to this point is that Dish did an incredible job building out a network from scratch. They have done an awful...

    AT&T Aquires some DISH Spectrum

Part of me wonders whether Charlie entered an agreement where Echostar gets $23 billion which isn't refunded when the FCC throws a flag and nixes the shift of the licenses. I'm only partially kidding.

    AT&T Aquires some DISH Spectrum

But if Boost has no spectrum in 5G to broadcast, aren't they just using AT&T's signal network, whether Boost owns the cell tower or not? All Boost seems to have now is a telecommunications protocol that works on a 5G signal network (and a built out cell tower system). Initially, I was under...

    AT&T Aquires some DISH Spectrum

It is odd (fishy?) that Dish launches the Boost promotion right before they sell the spectrum licenses. But it isn't like they sign you into a contract. So Boost is now the nation's fourth or fifth largest kind of cell company, when it was supposed to provide competition to allow a merger of two...

    AT&T Aquires some DISH Spectrum

So a manager wrote that? $23 billion? That knocks Echostar's +/- down to $7 billion in debt. I also thought Dish couldn't sell the spectrum. I assume that means Echostar's stock will pop. *looks* WOW! It popped, up nearly 100%.

16 years of Dish comes to an end

Originally had Directv, but after several years, cut the cord and went OTA. That lasted probably a year or two. Went back to Directv (had a receiver already, back in the day they weren't complicated and paying for one was doable, that receiver had 5.1, though Directv Programming didn't have...

I had those offers for a long while, and was taking part in them. I might have used up Dish's good will.

    Dish 2025-26 Price Increases

Have it hooked up. Other than learning a thumb drive works for the DVR relative to a powered mechanical hard drive, so far so good. Recording a number of things and will see how that goes. Love having the guide and recording the subchannels, one weakness with Dish.
