Thanks for the feedback thus far. The Joey interface shows a wireless connection strength of between 50-60. This doesn't seem to change around when events are occurring. I'm thinking of trying the suggestion of upgrading the access point. I'd like one with 1000m LAN ports anyway.

Charter is the only cable provider in the area and their service is awful. As far as I understand it they offer no HD whatsoever. Maybe you could get service from whoever provides cable to Osooyos.

The program is in limited beta at the moment meaning they are allowing a slow trickle of people. You should get a invitation via email when you are able to access the service. It took nearly three weeks for my invitation when I signed up however this was more than a month ago.

6 days doesn't seem like a big deal to me. I had to wait 4 when we had some serious winds that knocked my dish out of alignment. Believe it or not I actually survived. Sure I sat drooling and staring at a black screen for those 4 days but I made it.

Dish does such a horrible job of advertising all around. The confusing mess that is their ever changing mess of programming packages is just one good example.

There are some cards available that can take in component video. They aren't cheap either but you could probably put together some kind of solution with one of them. Example: Canopus Pegasus

If you've only got a few runs, trying to save pennies, and not going to have negotiate very long or complicated sections a unwrapped metal clothes hanger or a tape measure might work.

Have you watched a properly encoded H.264/MPEG-4 AVC Video? Once you rip out all the other language tracks, DVD Extra's etc... 1.5 GB for two hours of footage can create a fairly decent picture.

Complaints from that thread are basically what I had. Still shots were fine, motion showed serious artifacting/blocking.
